17 runs in 2 games given up to the worst offense in baseball. That's gross

Joe was throwing in the towel

wasn't expecting Paredes and Altuve to add 3 runs late

Seattle is 50-64 vs. the other 28 teams in MLB

I see tomorrow as pretty much a "must win" to assure Seattle remains in the rear view mirror.

the Mariners (58-66) have the Brewers and Cubs next

they really needed a sweep

Hunter brown on the mound. Division rival at home on national tv. Lead will either be 3 games or 2 games.

Yeah tomorrow is a should win

The Mariners have our number and always play out of their ass against us.

You think Arozarena is an All Star until you realize his OPS is absolutely nowhere near the .950 he puts up against us.

Basically Adolis Garcia

His firing will be so satisfying.

I'd love for us to shock the world, get another pennant in spite of him and then send him off into the sunset a hero

He is trying to rest our bullpen for the stretch run in September when the games count more.

Remarkable how quickly these guys killed any good vibes and excitement from last night.

We did it to ourselves in B1. That whole sequence to get 1 run followed by their bad hitters plating 4 the next half inning is Astros baseball 2026.

No doubt. We were down 3 runs and needed long relief. If you're going to have to eat 4+ innings of Blanco coughing up a 7.71 ERA, best burn him in a situation you were probably going to lose anyway over handing him the baseball as the SP in a 0-0 game.

At least hopefully that's the thought. Javier can fill that role for us too. Plus, it's a little funny using our bad SP as long relief. It's like bringing in Yordan and Altuve as defensive replacements.

Kyle Tucker lollygag update. Dodgers gave him the day off because apparently he can't hit at home.

If the season ended today, Kyle would have gotten paid $625k per hit (96) and $5.454m per home run (11).

Got paid and dgaf. At least he's not faking injury, yet, like Anthony Rendon.

Really wish this was an afternoon game today. Wife and daughter are out of town with my mother-in-law until this evening, so it would've been a perfect chance to catch a game

I believe I've posted here a few times what I've heard about Tucker. Extremely talented - but he doesn't love the game or work hard. The Astros were worried this was coming if they signed him to a big contract.

So far it seems like the right decision was made.

I wish it was this afternoon because I either have to skip the Astros or watch the premiere episode of Lanterns later tonight. But I won't shirk my HOFA duties, even though the Astros did in the first 6 innings.

This can't be right. I've been reliably told by all MLB writers that the Dodgers' management are the smartest guys in the room. Seems like something they would have investigated before paying him $60 million a year.

Having three times more money than the rest of the league definitely makes you look like the smartest guys in the room.

well, his injury recovery back in 2024 was certainly mysterious

obviously there was a lot of mistrust among the player, his agent, the front office, and the medical staff...before and after the injury

halfway thru August...

and Altuve still has a good month going

15 hits and 4 walks in 12 games -- including 3 x-base hits

good for .896 OPS

19 hits away from 2,500

if he averages one hit per game...

should get there during the home series vs. the Diamondbacks

I want him to get that 3000 so bad. It'll be a challenge because he's already gotten hit pretty hard by father time and he's gonna be battling a lockout next year. But I hope is that he has one really big resurgent year that puts him on track

He needs about four mostly healthy seasons that are semi-productive.

Amusingly, washed Tuve is up to .4 bWAR compared to Tucker's .3 bWAR.

Less amusingly Blanco and Javier (-.4 bWAR) are pitching at McCuller's level and will each match his -.6 bWAR in the next handful of outings if things continue apace.

Jake's recent cup of coffee nudged his bWAR up to .1, while Varsho (-.1 bWAR) is making his move on Lucas Spence (-.2 bWAR).

Baseball reference has Velazquez as our worst player (excluding pitchers) for the season by bWAR with a -.3 in just two games.

I'm thinking 5 more seasons with 100 hits per season to get there

but the lockout will be a big roadblock to 3,000

Biggio played to age 41 -- Altuve will have to also

We have Yordan under contract for two more seasons, after which he may be unaffordable, so we may the DH slot available for Altuve's last 3 (which would include a 2 year extension we will very much be able to afford).

The things we do for love.
