Let's tap the breaks on great. Lance had some great moments. That is all. Attendance is part of the grade and he failed

I think with no extension we'd look at him as great. Post 2022 and the heart of the extension (2023-current) is where it went wrong

2015-2021 would have been the Astros career and it was really good.

Again, he pitched 530? Innings in those years. Thats 2 1/2 years worth of innings for anyone with a pulse

Same thing with Carlos but he's an Astros great

Not really shocking. Keeping him is the "safe" thing to do.

Astros are buyers…..being 2 games back of division and WC I an guessing it's going to take a 1-5 or 0-6 before the deadline to change that

If you immediately hang up on suitors for Pena, that better mean you are either

A. Going to extend him
B. Trade him in the offseason

It won't even with that. Jim and Dana are determined to ride this rocket straight into the ground before doing anything with an eye towards the future. When we reach rock bottom in a year or two with Hunter and Pena leaving for the highest bidder (won't be us), I expect Jim to trade whatever prospects we still have at that time for a couple of washed up #3-4 SPs and an aging 1B.

They won't. Going to ride this decline all the way to the ground and then get out and start digging.

Im in the "extend Pena" camp. But I'll be really mad if we find out later the Red Sox were willing to give up a lot for him.

I'm just looking at the nationals now after the Juan Soto deal and how much better they are for the future

I think an extension for Pena is fantasyland now that he is signed with Boras. He is going to get a mega deal with the Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, or Red Sox that will be longer than Jim is willing to do and we will get nothing except maybe a draft pick if those survive in the new CBA.

Chandler wrote an article in which he specifically mentioned the possibility of Walker or Javier getting moved to open up salary room, but I have a hard time seeing them pull that off

If the price for Mead is what the market rate is, I expect us to do absolutely nothing of consequence

Now now…I'm sure Jason Heyward or Ben Gamel are available.

Dana missed his window to deal Walker -- he's been terrible since June 1st

June OPS ---> .674

July OPS ----> .585

this seems to happen to Dana a lot
W

and another problem with Walker:

2025 Daikin OPS ---> .622

2026 Daikin OPS ---> .705

he can't hit in his home ballpark

only spend big on right-handed free agents who can pull the baseball

Also it is just absurd to think this team has any business buying and any chance of contending. Lamonte Wade is hitting fifth in our lineup. Our outfield is atrocious. The run differential is -50.

It hurts to say, but this team, outside of 4-6 players, is not good. It is what the angels dealt with during the Shohei & Trout years when we all wondered why they never won. We are seeing it

by comparison...Paredes:

We have a surplus of bad hitting OFers who can't throw. Thats got to count for something.

If it's actually true that we are not answering the phone at all for Pena, then we may be the dumbest franchise in MLB. We should listen to any and all offers for ANY of the players on the team (including Yordan). Can always say no.

The only guy that should be on the we won't even listen list is Altuve. Everybody else should be available for the right price, even if that price would have to be jaw dropping (ie Yordan).

CW is back to the washed phase. Would Jim trade him to the Giants to take on Devers contract? If not that's proof all this "door never closes" nonsense is just that. It's like Meatloaf said, "I'll do any thing for (W's) but I won't do that"

Willie Mays and Henry Aaron were traded. Nostalgia doesn't win.

I'm not advocating trading him.

I get keeping Peña for an improbable playoff run, but at least see what he would bring. Give the Red Sox their own treatment and ask for the moon.

Crane is going to squeeze every ounce of blood out of this carcass.

We are second in the AL against teams with a winning record behind only Tampa. That's a stat I'm afraid Crane is looking at if we did make a surprise playoff run.

But ours is heavily weighted with wins against BOS, CLE, and TEX that just squeak over the line.

Everyone but Yordan and Altuve should be on the block

Astros Bingo Update: 7-27-26
Spreadsheet Link

Square Update: I've made the executive call that Yanier Diaz is probably not going to record 57 RBI in the next 55 games, meaning he won't be making it to 80 RBI. Kudos to Cweezy17, Teddy Perkins, and
1996 for picking up the Diaz < 80 RBI bingo square!

Reasons to Smile
Jeremy Pena is hotter than a Coleman stove
One more day for Tacoma and Arlington to beat each other up

Reasons to Barf
It's hard to be even a decent team with limited starting pitching and a POS outfield.
I have yet to regain total hearing after seeing the Odyssey yesterday.

Astros' Flashback: July 27, 1992: The Astros begin an unprecedented 28-day road trip to accommodate the Republican National Convention. They beat the Braves 5-1 in Atlanta thanks to an 11th-inning grand slam by Eric Anthony. After losing 10 of their first 14 games on the road, the team rallies to finish 12-16. They get back home on August 25th with a 56-68 record. They'll catch fire from there, finishing 25-13 to go 81-81 just one year after bottoming out at 65-97. The residents of the Astrodome during the long road trip are not as fortunate. George H.W. Bush wins the nomination easily, then gets his ass handed to him by Slick Willie in November, 370 electoral votes to 168. Somewhere in the afterlife, James Stockdale is still asking "Who am I?" and "Why am I here?"

And now, the newest sensation, sweeping the nation.

If it wasn't for the labor uncertainty then trading Pena this winter makes the most sense.

You're still moving him while in demand but also keeping him for whatever run you have this season.

But the labor situation and next year being up in the air makes it a whole different situation for both sides of any trade.

Glad I'm not the GM with my job on the line.

Jose Urquidy, who was DFA by the Pirates a few days ago, has been traded to the White Sox. He had an ERA over 8 with Pitt. That's awful. Maybe he can find a role to help them out?

I wish we had a chance to keep Jeremy for another 3 years, b/c he's probably gonna be really good in that time. However, other than him and Alvarez, what else in our organization makes you think we are making a run in that span?
