Mathguy is already shuddering at the "second to home" numbers. Those have to be bottom five in the league.

Mathguy has been pounding on his keyboard, hoping to get data on BB issued that eventually score a run. Because we all know we allow it to happen almost nightly.

Unfortunately there is no such stat tracked and AI's basically say "Yeah I dont have than and cant find it. You probably need to go through the play-by play for every game and track that by hand. So sod off you nerd wanker and let me go back to seeing if I have the computer permission slips to hack Goldman Sacks and crash the market."

Hot take here...

Crane didn't sign Imai because of the quality of pitcher he is. He signed him because he wanted to get a ticket on the Daikin/Japanese sponsor train.

Baseball took a backseat to business.

I've been saying that from the beginning. Crane never once sniffed in the Asian market until he partnered with Daikin. I've even thought his next manager will come from Japan…wouldn't shock me one bit.

A couple of starting pitching stats from an ESPN article:

- Houston's staff ERA is 5.19, which is surprisingly not last in MLB (28th)
- Astros are on pace for the lowest rotation WAR in franchise history.
- It's been nearly 50 years since any staff (in baseball) walked more batters than the 2026 Astros.

Crane spent all the pitching money on Imai, which left Dana very few dollars to scrape the bottom of the talent barrel. They both failed.

I'm still stunned that the Astros devised a plan around HB, Imai, Arrighetti, surgery guys returning, and bottom dollar free agents.

Weiss- demoted
Burrows- demoted
LMJ- gone
Arrighetti- gone
Javier- 8+ ERA in 8 starts
Blanco- 7+ ERA in 5 starts
Imai- moved to the pen, and used sparingly

Woof

Yep It blows. Crane the owner should fire Crane the pseudo GM because he has no clue what a quality ML pitcher looks like.

Interestingly enough Crane is in the Missouri State Hall of Fame for being a pitcher at Central Missouri State.

Well if Bags has taught us anything it's that HOF status has no bearing on GM abilities.

Yanier even said last night postgame that those are the games where he wishes he could keep going and get more ABs in.

Woo has given up six early runs to the Phillies at home, would be nice to pick up a game on Seattle today.

Good grief. I get that the catching rotation is linked to pitchers and not offensive performance, but how in the hell do you not DH Yainer today and put Yordan in LF if Vazquez is catching?

Can we get a countdown added to the daily summary posts CharleyKerfeld? I am going to enjoy the last waning days of Espada's stupidity as Astros manager like fine wine poured through a dirty gym sock.

This is the type of s*it that infuriates me. Dude obviously sees the ball well at that stadium and he gives him the night off...just ridiculous especially with our hot/cold offense.

Does he schedule guys with days off months in advance and doesn't alter them except due to injury? It's just dumbfounding. I went ahead and put $50 on the Yanks out of spite.

I was a Chase Field for a Dodgers-D Backs game last year. It was 70% Dodgers fans and the stadium was in major need of some upgrades. The club level looked like the Alamodome.

It makes me wish Crane would take a look at that lineup and go back to Joe's office and say "You know what Joe? I was wrong. GTFO now!"

On paper, Imai looked like an awesome signing.

This.

He was universally acclaimed by every scouting service as an immediate impact no 3 type starter.

Sometimes you have every reason to think a prospect will be good and it just doesn't work out. Or it doesn't work out immediately.

I'm sure the Dodgers thought they were getting an All Star caliber player in Tucker. Hoops.

ETA: let's not forget everyone's favorite GM traded for Carlos Gomez and Mike the Rat Fiers once.

I guarantee Joe thought, I can't burn Diaz if Vasquez gets injured or limits me on those late inning pinch runners he's so f***ing fond of instead of "I need to keep all the hot bats I've got in the lineup with my hot and cold offense."

Forget that we have Varsho as an emergency 3rd catcher if necessary...if Vasquez gets hurt you slot Diaz in as catcher and we lose the DH, oh well.

I can't stand the rat like everyone else but summer 2017 he had a run that kept that team going. Starters were struggling except him for a bit.

As a follow-up... how many #3 starters make $18 million a year or more?

Making $18 million probably makes you a long reliever for the Dodgers. For everyone else on the other hand?

He ranks around 40th highest paid SP. more so like a #2. But this ignores all the pitchers in pre arb and arb. If we assume 50% of SP haven't reached FA than he is paid like a #3.
