Crane nixing that Abreu for Larnach trade should be proof enough. That trade is not the level of one the owner should be heavily involved in.
Fair point, if that's accurate.

Yeah but word is out the gm is clearly not the gm, it's just a figure head. How about this, if you are a good gm or want to make a career of it how is Houston a job for you to accomplish that? I don't think it Is with the way things work today
I've only heard this on this message board, other than the report of Crane nixing the Abreu trade to the Twins.
I'm not saying it's not true, just that this is not some prevailing thought on the Astros overall in terms of national or local media, etc. Maybe I've just missed it.

Yesterday sucked -- the deadline, the game, and the freaking doyers.
This however is absolutely hilarious. I wonder how long he'll keep this up.The Mets called up the guy that does a leaping split after every strikeout. pic.twitter.com/CF7ZY50SbY

This is how I imagine Juan Soto would be if he was a pitcher

Bobby Abreu had one of the greatest quietest careers of all-time
played 18 seasons, but was only a 2-time all-star. Highest MVP finish was 12th.
he was great with the Phillies, but the Phillies never made the playoffs during his tenure.
his teams only made the playoffs 4 times -- once with the Astros as previously mentioned
10,081 career plate appearances during the regular season -- only 79 PA's in the postseason
