That being said, even if you don't want to "sell", I think you have to at least consider doing a shuffle.

It feels irresponsible to NOT trade Pena knowing that you can get a king's ransom right now and knowing that the offseason trade market may tank with labor uncertainty. You CANNOT let him walk for nothing or pennies on the dollar.

You could trade Pena for a big haul, trade for Adames and Bleday, and not have likely lessened your short-term position.

If that's all you need then Bleday, Moniak or McCarthy, though history should make you question whether they can sustain their production.

Yeah, combine those OPS numbers with a pitching staff leading baseball in walks and general ineptitude, and then tell me this team is one or two strategic additions from a playoff run.

I will always root for the Astros to win. I would just like to see an optimization of resources given the high potential for a lost full/partial season in 2027 and low potential to resign some guys (Pena/Brown) before they walk.
