Had a busy weekend but I'm hearing the same as Chandler as far as trade talks ramping up. Frankly at this point I would be pretty surprised if Parades is an Astro at the start of spring training.

I will say.. I'll share some thoughts/info about this whole thing after a move is made that will maybe make this move make sense for those who are on the fence or don't want to move him at all.

What if you're a DirecTv or Comcast subscriber? Don't they somewhat get limited access to ESPN unlimited will they have to pay twice?

Now, there are some caveats. MLB.tv offers a free month of ESPN Unlimited upon signup. MLB.tv subscribers can cancel the ESPN Unlimited subscription during their free trial and still retain access to MLB.tv throughout the entire season. Likewise, if you already have access to ESPN Unlimited through your cable, satellite, or virtual TV provider, there's no need to pay the extra $30 per month. Additionally, if your MLB.tv subscription is set to be auto-renewed from last season, you will not need an ESPN Unlimited subscription.

So, does this imply there may be a "trade discount" the Astros are willing to accept to make a deal? As a hypothetical, do the Astros consider Paredes (or a player like Abreu) a health time bomb that results in a lost season (or two, given the likely lockout)?

Anybody else checking out the WBC at Daikin?

I'm going to USA vs Italy

Not at Daikin, but we're going to Spring Training during Spring Break, so we decided to check out a couple WBC games in Miami. We're going to DR vs Israel and Venezuela vs Nicaragua.

Keep an eye out for Ryan Prager on Team Israel

Yup. If the Brewers are selling after the rookie season then I don't trust his future moving forward. Boston doing things very cheaply and very young.

There is nothing obvious left out there on the trade market.

If that is the case, do we need to worry about Paredes failing a physical screwing up any deal we make?

I have real concerns about Paredes' hamstring. I was surprised he didn't elect to have surgery. That could be the "ticking time bomb."

I know it's less than ideal for Paredes to potentially not be in the starting lineup, but it's a nice problem to have in case Correa or Walker have to miss time especially with the former's injury history and how last year went for this team in general.

Why not wait and see if another team loses their third baseman giving us more leverage in a trade?

It's Abreu. When he first came up in trade talks and this board started freaking out, Marvin mentioned his proclivity for getting 1-2 runners on frequently and I then mentioned he hasn't been injured yet and I wondered if the org feels like it's only a matter of time.

2015 replied to that and said I was on to something.

Ok, I was thinking you were referring to Boston's Abreu, not ours.

Paredes better be in the lineup if he's on the Astros. He was an All-Star last year.

It's not leas than ideal if you don't have him in the starting lineup, it's dumb if he isn't.

I have no problem with waiting, but that means Walker is the one to the bench in that scenario.

We aren't sure the drop in defense at 1B if Paredes plays there. Thus the log jam in the infield and the entire reason the org is trying to get value in return for Paredes since they can't for Walker.

I guarantee you if the org could have traded Walker and had someone eat at least half of his contract, the org would have done it yesterday.

Yeah, whether or not it's warranted, it is something I do wonder about with him - like will this be the year his arm blows up. He may totally be fine.

For that matter, you could have the same concerns about Framber. Thankfully not our problem though.

So when my MLB TV renews for $130 that charge does not come with access to the games? What does it come with?

That feels like grounds for a class action.
Marvin

I think you need an ESPN Unlimited account to activate your MLB access, and can then cancel your ESPN service during the 1-month free trial. If you are an existing customer, I think you will avoid this. So, it hypothetically should not cost anything more than the MLB fee, provided you cancel before ESPN charges you.

I think.

Quote:

  • New Subscribers (2026): Must sign up for ESPN Unlimited, but can cancel during the free trial.
  • Existing/Renewing Subscribers: Those on auto-renew for the 2026 season generally do not need to add the ESPN subscription.
  • Alternative Access: Amazon Prime Video offers MLB.TV as a channel, which may bypass the ESPN requirement.
  • Coverage: MLB.TV covers out-of-market games, while national games (like Sunday Night Baseball) and some postseason games remain exclusive to ESPN.

Anyone else a TMobile subscriber? I get MLB.tv free. I assume that makes me a "returning subscriber."

The other possibility is Durbin is part of a package back to us. Offensively he is a poor man's Isaac but he has a better defensive profile to be a utility player. Obviously wouldn't work straight up but him and a good pitching prospect might make sense for us to have a few $.

I don't see that happening, and if we are going to trade Paredes we need to get an OF bat in return. Our current outfield configuration is one of the worst offensive outfields in the league.

There is nothing obvious left out there on the trade market.

What about 3 teamer similar to something like this:

Pirates get Paredes (12.9)
Astros get Kwan (28.3) & Bart (6.5)
Guards get a mix of prospects from both, possibly a big leaguer too like Sanchez or some of our SP depth.

(baseball trade value)

Another name that could make sense... Ian Happ. He's on the final year of his deal and fits what we need in LF as a switch-hitter. If we're giving up Paredes, we'd need some more in the deal.

Something like...

Pirates get Paredes
Astros get Happ, Bart, and a prospect
Cubs get.... not sure what they'd want from Pitt. I want to say they just need pop in general. Happ takes them from borderline luxury tax to safely under with room to make another move.

But the Cubbbies may want to keep him. He's entering year #10 as a Cub.

I am having trouble finding anyone else.

There are a bunch of lefties that aren't available - Ohtani, Soto, Kurtz, Anthony, Seager, etc.
Some names that are likely not available, but maybe - Carpenter, Wallner, Stowers
Too young, but I'd entertain if they'd entertain - Marsee, Lile, Baldwin

What about Jurickson Profar? He was fine after coming back from his suspension.

Farmer, can we go back to having you use the popcorn man? everytime i see a blue diamond I think something important happened.
