Well I just got randomly hired to ghostwrite a book for someone in the Toronto Blue Jays organization (NDA already signed unfortunately), so here's hoping I can become the Canadian version of 2015 for the next few months.

I was the one who wrote that as I worked in the RSN industry (though I no longer do).

My guess is the decline of cable and satellite subs accelerated beyond the projections from a couple years ago and the teams decided to launch a DTC (streaming) service as a last ditch effort to stabilize aggregate sub fees.

All evidence where other teams have done the same have shown it only expedites the downward revenue slide because it will further encourage cord cutting and the inevitable transition to streaming ala carte tv.

Desperate times require desperate measures I suppose.

No worries at all. The teams have all taken haircuts on both the telecast rights fees and the declining pay tv model (where historically the RSN (and now the teams who own the network) got paid for almost every subscriber to cable/satellite even though only 30% actually watched even a single game. It was an unsustainable model but I assume the teams would rather get to a reset of the model via DTC rather than watch the ship sinking in real time.

If you're outside of that area, can't you just get MLB TV?

Yes, but ESPN now owns that, and the user experience for their streaming service is the worst thing ever.

I doubt it, MLB sold the whole MLB.tv package to ESPN, which means you likely have to stream it through them.

If you aren't in Texas, MLB TV is a far superior deal. About 1/2 the cost but all teams. This is just for those of us in-market but that don't want fubo or dtv or wherever else carries SCN.

Are you still using native smart tv apps? Just buy a cheap fire stick and it'll all be there I'm sure

Yeah. I have a fire stick for 1 TV, but I'll probably add a couple more.

Why would anyone watch that guy? I follow him on X because of the blind squirrel theory- every blind squirrel finds an acorn occasionally.

But most of his posts are garbage and his sudden unhinged rants about how awesome his house is and how rich he is are laughable. I'm not sure he has any more connections to get info than listening to others' podcasts and reading 2015's posts on TexAgs.
