I would say just about any veteran arm would be an upgrade over any of those three in the second half the season once they hit the career high in innings. I think you're overvaluing those three guys big time honestly.

They've been great. But it would be foolish to expect that to last through September.

Also- if you want to add a quality bat, it's probably going to require moving at least one of those young arms.

If they win it all this year but don't resign him then it's ok. You won a ring so it's worth it. And actually winning one may may the finances work better because they will get more revenue as a bump.

I'm actually starting to lean towards "do nothing" at the deadline.

The team chemistry is absolutely perfect right now. Everyone plays a part. No 1 superhero. Every day a new guy takes care of his business just one time and ends up being the difference. Yet, every day, everyone does their job defensively.

I'd rather not screw it up. We already have our deadline pieces with all the injured guys coming back. No need to add an unknown.

I agree on the quality bat part possibly costing a young pitcher.

But to me, there is no world I trade any of our SP for a Willi Castro, etc.

IF you take a swing on a big bat and have to ship out a young arm, THEN I agree about supplementing our group with another lower-cost arm.

I tend to agree. If, and it's a big if, but if LMJ stays healthy, Arrighetti returns, and say Javier makes it back, you need a bat more than another pitcher. The relative value of getting a pitcher better than LMJ or Arrighetti (a real #3 or better starter) over a solid LH bat would likely cost whatever talent the Astros have left (say Matthews and/or Ullola).

Also, keep in mind some on here were absolutely certain that Cam Smith would not make the opening day roster. That's the thinking that is driving talk about Gusto, Walker, and Gordon. Odds are they may be right, but time will tell.

Emergence of Peña, Meyers, and Smith changes the trade deadline look somewhat.

Return of Yordan surely will help - one assumes a healed hand will get him back to being the Yordan we know and love.

If Walker and Diaz can get any kind of uptick in production that directly reduces the need for a trade.

Still, I'd argue you might as well bolster your offense when you have a serious contender. Injuries can happen and if you have too many productive bats just like quality pitching those are good problems to have.

A real issue is what is what are prices going to be at the deadline? With the 3rd wildcard spot you have naturally many buyers and limited sellers.
