I mentioned him recently. I think you could make it work with some rotation at DH, LF, and 1B. Altuve at second base would be more tolerable if you had Alvarez, Naylor, and Caratini batting against a RH starter. Plus, you are guaranteed to have a legitimate major league bat waiting on the bench.

Let's not forget that Yordan also sucked for the part of the year he did play.


He's now missed 49 games after only playing in 29. If he's not back to being in the everyday lineup two weeks from now, he'll be unable to make it to 100 games played this year.

Regardless of when he comes back, this will be twice in the last 3 years under 120 games - less than 75% availability.

The Angels might endure it with Trout because they don't care about winning anyway, but Yordan - who turns 28 on Friday - is going the wrong way health wise.

Since 2020 up today, Yordan has missed 215 games with injuries. That's 1.33 seasons.

The good news is we have plenty of experience negotiating with Boras

No way, unless we're actually IN the rebuild a year out you keep him. Way easier to recoup an AS OF than an AS shortstop, unless it falls into your lap again like Correa>Pena.

Brice Matthews' development would seemingly be a factor in that calculus.

Not sure anyone in the majors is as stupid as the Cubs for trades. Unfortunately Al Davis is dead and Jerry Jones doesn't own the Ranger.

I don't think he's a free agent until 2028.

I'm sure they would find a way to keep him in the lineup nearly every day while keeping guys fresh.

Again, he's likely the best available bat so they're doing their due diligence and checking in.

If it's 6 years for a rookie contract (he was a rookie on the 2022 WS team) then contract would end after 2027 season. So you've either got to extend or trade after the 2026 season to get a return.

Overpays for star players with 1 or 2 years of control are fairly common. The Nats got 3 all stars from the Soto trade.

Soto and even Tucker are a different class of player, no offense intended toward Peña.

Similar to Tucker, this offseason looks like the make or break. Once you get to a year away from free agency there's no reason for the player to sign a deal. Right now he's looking like a $200+m guy, which is something Crane has never been willing to do.
