I've been an Astros fan since 1971 when I was 7 years old. I've seen (or heard) dang near every Astros player play this game we love. For things like your note above, plus his consistent excellence on the field, his humble team first nature, his clutch performances in the biggest moments, the willingness to not play for the largest pile of money but for the team that gave him a chance, there is no one else close, in my book, to hold the title of greatest Astro of all time.

Biggio is in the conversation. He changed positions, also , for the good of the team. It's crazy how many quality 2nd basemen this franchise has had. But, I agree, Altuve takes the top spot. He has been a joy to watch perform.

One thing super encouraging about Pena is his SO % has dropped each year from 2022.
2022 - 24.4%
2023 - 20.3%
2024 - 17.1%

BB% went down in 2024, but 2023 could be an outlier. Need more data.
2022 - 3.9%
2023 - 6.8%
2024 - 3.8%

His line drive % decreased each year from 2022.
2022 - 25.3%
2023 - 22.9 %
2024 - 21.8%

If he can keep the strikeouts to around 17%, or even improve to 15%/16%, get the walk rate back up to near 6%, he can get his OPS closer to .750. Get his line drive % back up to around 25% and maybe he can push his OPS closer to .800. He'd be a really solid 5th or 6th hitter.

He's currently league average for SS in terns of OPS+, sitting right at 100.

I'm pretty hopeful for Jeremy this season.

Reminds me of the stories we heard about all the fielding work Biggio put in with Matt Galante when moving to second. Seemed to work out okay.

Altuve is pretty well known to use other people's stuff. Bats, gloves, etc.

Years ago there was an audio option on MLB.tv for the ambient noise of the stadium. They took it away after 2019. I used that every time the Astros had a national game.
