I feel the same way about Bregman as I did with Springer. I don't think they will age well on a longer contract. The injury history will catch up with them and degrade performance.

I could easily be wrong, but he could perform well for another year or 2, but the dropoff will happen in 1-3 years. Just my opinion.

Nope. He had a shot at 6/156 and turned it down.

He can have 3/80 with auto extensions if he meets certain metrics. Half of it deferred and no opt outs. All an opt out does is let him out early and since he can't be QO tagged again, we lose that compensation.

The reality is with Parades and Smith, we don't need Bregman as much as maybe he needs us.

No longer the worst...
Quote:

The Astros didn't have a top-100 prospect until they picked up Cam Smith from the Cubs in the Kyle Tucker trade, which is the result of a lot of years of, frankly, not very good drafts. The 2019 draft gave them Hunter Brown; he's the last Astros draft pick to generate 1 WAR of major-league value. They've drafted a lot of position players who project as platoon or extra guys, and a lot of pitchers who project as fifth starters often guys with command but not stuff or middle relievers. And they've traded some solid prospects, including Jake Bloss, Joey Loperfido, Chayce McDermott, and Drew Gilbert, further depleting the system.

Same **** different year, except we keep pulling no name guys up out of the minors that have been contributing on a major league level for the last ten years

yeah it really challenged my knowledge about the early 80s Astros and made me feel a lot less secure about what I 'remember'

This is false.

2021 Draft - Round 7 - Spencer Arrighetti - 1.6 fWAR in 2024.

No, but his bWAR is drastically different. Maybe that is what they're referencing.

To say LMJ is "one of the biggest disappointments in baseball history" is pretty dumb IMO. There are many, many 1st round selections that I'd label as bigger disappointments than him. Many of which never made it to the bigs, much less to the WS and being a contributor to winning it. Just my opinion.

Whatever. All we will do is promote 2 more unknown pitchers who throw darts.

This is actually a step down from when Channel 39 used to air Houston Wrestling in the 1980s

His performance in '17 WS notwithstanding, I was impressed with his leadership in the '22 WS where he knew he was getting blown up and wanted to stay in and save the BP for the following day. Paid off immensely IMO.

Coworker is a diehard Philly sports fan and seeing his hopes and dream crumble after being so high after that game was glorious.

I'll show my age by remembering watching the Astros on HSE (channel 37 on cable). Even had Dierker in the booth before he became manager.

Going from getting lit up to throwing a combo no-no was a beautiful thing to witness. And as someone who hates everything sports wise with Philthy, it gave me a tingly feeling in my special place
No matter what!
Epstein didn't do, you know, the thing...
I'm the rare Astros/Cowboys/Spurs fan. We do exist

Pretty sure they were already planning the parade after Game 3. What a shame.

One of the biggest Astros "what-ifs" for me is LMJ's 2021 injury. Dude was an ace that season, and I think having him against Atlanta was enough to win the title.

Yep, and if you didn't have cable, you could only watch away games. It was like a special treat to be able to watch a home game that was occasionally broadcasted on Fox.

Channel 51 ruled. Sports Night Live with Granato at a bar interviewing players from teams was phenomenal.
