The interesting thing with Profar is that you could conceivably play him as a LF/2B allowing Yordan and Altuve to share DH duties and Profar cover the other spot.

The risk profile makes me nervous, but there is some versatility that could make it helpful, along with obvious offensive upside. I know the Astros rightfully value roster flexibility.

Could have been some fantastic air conditioner memes if Daikan had taken over already.

Let's do a little hypothetical with Profar. Where would he bat in the lineup? Last year for SD he hit 2nd or 3rd a combined 102 games. Would he bat 2nd in Houston? Would he even be a regular starter?

Altuve
Yordan
Paredes
Walker
Yainer
Profar
Pena
Chas
Jake

Or move him between Walker and Yainer vs RHP, both for some lineup protection and for LR purposes?

Joel Sherman, Jon Heyman, Dan Shaughnessy and Keith Law suck. They all did NOT vote for Wagner for HOF. Self-important sad sacks.

Heyman didn't vote for Wagner, but he voted for Torii Hunter, Mark Buerhle and David Wright -- all good players, but questionable for the HOF imo.

While batting Yordan second fits modern day theory, which I would never dismiss, I don't think he is entirely comfortable there, given Altuve's penchant for quick at-bats. The splits back up that Yordan's output has been worst (while still great) in the 2 hole.

I would go:
Altuve
Profar (OBP)
Alvarez
Paredes
Walker
Diaz
McCormick
Meyers
Peña

Mr. Ketch sir, do you have a sense on whether the front office see's Jurrickson Profar's 2024 season as a flash in the pan or built on sustainable changes/improvement?

Eno Sarris, an analytically-minded baseball journalist I rely on for fantasy insight, tends to believe in this "new" version of Profar based on underlying metrics.

If the 2025+ Profar plays like the 2024 Profar, he will be a steal at his projected price. Not to mention he's the best outfielder available at this time.
His batted ball metrics were fantastic. There was nothing flukey about it other than he'd never done it before and this was his age 30 season.
You know my position on this - my skepticism meter is extremely high on Profar. That caveat of other than he's never done it before, it was his age 30 season, and add to it he did it in a contract year, it's a pretty big caveat. Lasting change like Profar had late in his career is very rare in MLB. He's essentially a rookie and the league will adjust to him. He's pretty much going to have a sophomore season next year, so we'll see how he handles those adjustments. Just not sure I'm willing to spend the money he wants to see who he really is.

I was wrong on Kikuchi, so I certainly could be wrong on Profar too. If the Astros do end up signing him, will obviously will root hard for the guy.

Even though I still don't like the bottom of that lineup. But it is what it is.

I still think he gets in today.

It's gonna be close. The voters who don't publish their info publicly came in last year collectively under 60% for Wags. Enough of them do that again and it's very very close.

It's about time. His numbers speak for themselves, and while he didn't have great postseason success, neither did Biggio or Bagwell, and there are many in who didn't even play in the postseason.

Crazy that Mariano Rivera is the only unanimous selection. That's almost like saying he's the greatest player of all time. I still think if you had put Wagner in his place on the Yankees, Billy would have been a first-ballot selection and near unanimous. His strikeout rate and BAA should have been enough to secure it. He was as unhittable as any pitcher that's ever played.
