Yep. The short term commitment is enticing to them.

This tells me Bregs is still dead set on a long term deal and Boston is looking for a short term stop gap.

If I were Bregs I'd be telling Boras to get me a deal with Boston yesterday. Even if it means a Correa like deal with opt outs.
I read the Red Sox public discussions about Arenado as a way to put pressure on Boras and Bregman. They have to know he would prefer to be there over Detroit or Toronto, so they are making it sound like he is losing his chance. Not sure what Boras is thinking at this point (well, we always know what his bottom line is), but he doesn't seem to be serving his client very well at the moment.

It's clear Bregman overplayed his hand. I'm really curious what the second offer from the Astros was.

I am all for Athletes getting their money. But, if they are so intent on letting 1 year be the difference between signing or not when you're talking about 6-7 years, you've either been given bad advice, ego driven, or an idiot. Probably a combination.

I understand guys holding out for another year on a 2 vs 3 year, or 3 vs 4 year, or even 4 vs 5 year deal. Once you get into the 6 year deal territory, especially at ages of 30-32, holding out for that extra year and missing your window to sign with a good team is flat out stupid. I cannot believe Bregman didn't learn from the way things went down with Snell, Chapman, and Monty last year. I legitimately thought he was smarter than that.

I don't think Boston has technically made an offer to Bregman. Their leadership is torn on him.

On some level I feel bad for these guys who have no other choice but to play for the White Sox

I will gladly go suffer on the White sox for that kind of money.

Agreed. Beats sitting at home scratching my nether regions with Scott Boras….

I'd definitely have a second home for the offseason that's not in Chicago

I think he's going to have to settle for a big fat payday from Toronto.
And life as a singles/doubles hitter without the Crawford boxes. Bet his elbow is going to love diving for balls on astroturf too.
Do they even eat salsa in Canadia

Yes, but they call it ketchup and it is bland as hell.

Ownership has an opportunity to let Bregman save some face with short term term or performance incentive laced deal. Bregman isn't the star Correa or Springer were but he has been a leader and the glue between the Latin players and Americans.

Would be nice for something to work out where Breggy comes back needing to prove something

I feel like Bregman will do a short term higher AAV "prove it deal" with somebody.

Unfortunately for him I don't think his numbers will dictate a further massive extension like it did with Snell or Bellinger

Not to crazy to think based on that stat on pitchers coming into the zone more that he could be a mid level or lower play in the next year.

He should have listened to Kenny Rogers not Scott Boras.

Hey needs to be protected in the line up to be really productive, few places for him to do that. His OBP will stay high because of his eye at the plate but thats not going to get him the deal he wants. He is also very marketable in Houston he wont be as marketable for off the field deals in Detroit or Toronto

Linskey was a 16th round pick in 2023. 6-7 used as a RP. No clue on stuff but he gets a lot of k's (51 in 32 innings last year). Wouldn't shock me if we try to start him similar to what we did with Blanco.

I know Linskey and his dad pretty well. Great people and great kid.

He's got legit stuff. Sits about 97 and has a nasty hook. Very happy for the kid and his family.

Man I'm ready to see LuAce pitch again!

His extra innings of the ALDS against Seattle were magical. Dude was pumping 97 MPH fastballs that I didn't know he had.

I figured it would be for Alek Thomas. I suppose who we would potentially get would depend on any prospects or the amount of cash we send.

This was my idea to target to platoon with Jake. Terrible season so value is super low but his batted ball #s show a huge potential bounce back. I see no way Pressly gets you Jake. Why would the Dbacks do that?
linkdude

Even if Pressly bounces back, sending McCarthy would probably hemorrhage value for Arizona. For Thomas you would probably still have to throw a prospect in or eat cash.
MaxPower
How long do you want to ignore this user?
McCarthy isn't and never will be an impact player, so I could see the d-bags trading him. He's basically left-handed Dubon. That said, I don't see why they would trade a cheap starting OF for a $14M reliever on the backend of his career.
