He's at 262 wins, so 300 is probably no longer on the table, but just 10 more gets him into the top 35 all time.
If he has a healthy season, he'll pass Walter Johnson and probably Gaylord Perry to get to #8 in strikeouts

Yeah I feel like in a different construction of team, we'd have signed him again.

But $15M for an aging pitcher who may be done is not really a risk we could afford to take given our glut of potential starting pitching next year, and bigger holes to fill...

Hate to see it, but glad he's giving it another go. Hopefully he can manage to have a better year.

Realistically? If Pressly had his head right, we have a solid rotation. I would rather have a good extra arm in the pen.

JV could easily be a 7-9 pitcher who spends time on the IL.

Linskey was a 16th round pick in 2023. 6-7 used as a RP. No clue on stuff but he gets a lot of k's (51 in 32 innings last year). Wouldn't shock me if we try to start him similar to what we did with Blanco.

Hypothetical- if Boras does not land the big contract for Bregman, would the Astros be interested in a short-term deal with opt-outs like Correa signed in Minnesota?

I assume not given the payroll, but curious.

Yeah but we've already heard how devers doesn't want to come off third. If they can convince him to do so, they either move him to first or full time DH him. If he moves to first then where did casas go?

Yep. The short term commitment is enticing to them.

This tells me Bregs is still dead set on a long term deal and Boston is looking for a short term stop gap.

If I were Bregs I'd be telling Boras to get me a deal with Boston yesterday. Even if it means a Correa like deal with opt outs.
