The only thing that softens that is knowing that even if he did not choke in the playoffs, there is absolutely zero way our team last year even sniffed the World Series. If we won that game two against Detroit, we likely would've just lost the next game or lost in the ALDS anyways.
Also his 2022 WS performance makes him immune IMO

He's one of my favorites. Only reason I'd like to trade him is I think we have gotten the best we can from him and given the right trading partner you could get something decent in return

Other than the one momentary lapse of judgement where Press acted like a total B when he got pulled for Hader to come in against the lefty in the 8th of a critical game where we clinched and didnt come out to celebrate with the team, always loved what he did for the Astros.

I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.
I've done some digging on the Mets if we trade Framber and one guy to keep an eye on is Tyler Megill. At first glance he doesn't look like much, 29 year old who has bounced between the minors and bigs and never had an ERA under 4.00. However, he consistently hits 95 with his fastball and has elite extension so there was always some clay to mold.
Digging even deeper, he developed a sinker last year that he basically didn't use until August (he used it less than 5% prior to August and 20% thereafter). He had an ERA of 2.33 the rest of the year as it was a dominant pitch for him. Hitters only hit .250 and slugged a paltry .283 against the pitch. He throws a lot of breaking pitches so I suspect our pitching coaches could work some more magic with him on pitch mix there as well.
If we get him and Baty with a prospect for Framber that seems a much better option than Arenado. You easily have money leftover for a Santander to stay under the luxury tax threshold.

If I'm being fair to the hitting coaches, we have given them stars (who likely don't listen to them) and a bunch of hot garbage. I think people underestimate how bad the minor league hitting talent is that we have churned out the last 5 years. Yanier is really it. Squeezing a few good years out of Chas has been a miracle.
lol...you can have Megill for a bag of balls...he is mediocre at best. His stuff his decent, but his control is awful. And he melts down at the most inconvenient time
Batt has a good stroke, he just needs a change of scenery and at this point (depending on what happens with Alonso) he is without a position. There was rumblings of him going to left, but nothing more came of it.

His sweeper, change up and cutter stink so we'd probably start with dumping them. His 4 seam was good but probably used too much. I already mentioned his sinker but his curve and split were also good. Focusing on those 4 with an occasional slider is probably the right formula.
Has Chas or Meyers been mentioned in any potential trades? Surely some team can see potential in a change of scenery for them?
They've shopped Jake hard and haven't gotten a lot of interest.

the Astros seem to be one of the teams that puts a lot of emphasis on defense
whereas other teams want guys that can swing the bat...and they'll figure out how to catch the ball later
