Even if we only have him for an extra year for 2026 if he opts out that could go a long way.
Pitcher extensions haven't worked out great for us. There's a lot of mileage on that arm and he will be 32 when he reaches free agency. Someone will give him $150+M and that someone won't (or at least shouldn't) be us.tjack16 said:
I'd like to keep Framber and see if we can extend him on a deal with early opt outs (similar to Snell in SF)

It doesn't look like Alex Bregman will be back with the Astros. The 156/6 was not even in the ballpark on what Bregman and his camp were looking for.

The Astros would need to raise their annual salary or years to sign him, but it looks like he's gone.
Houston is starting to…
BREGMAN UPDATE: Dana Brown said Friday after the Kyle Tucker trade, the status of talks is unchanged from Tuesday.

Astros still pursuing Bregman. Sources say the Astros are very much "still in it" with the star 3B.
But, competition for Bregman is strong.https://t.co/gakg8tTYOS

I can confirm this but I'll add it's not limited to Arenado.

Bregman is not signing here. Very very very slim chance.

Now, I can confirm they're looking at moving Caritini.

Money. They think it could be used elsewhere for better value
If only we had prior experience bringing in a player making a lot of money whose power was falling off a cliff in previous years to tell us how this might work out...if only...Quo Vadis? said:
Arenado should probably be a first ballot hall of famer, but I worry that he's on an Abreu like trajectory.
22- 151 ops+
23-109 ops +
24- 99 ops+
His power numbers have fallen off a cliff.
22- 73xbh
23- 54xbh
24- 39xbh
All in almost exactly the same number of AB's

Seems stingy for $6M? Not getting paid an enormous haul and only has 1 more year. Don't think it'd be a good move. Allows you to move Diaz to 1B as a platoon.

Go thru the roster. There are very few spots where money could be shed. Pressly & Caratini are paid 20 M between them and would be wanted elsewhere. No one is touching McCullers contract with a 50 foot pole.
We shed ~9 in the Tucker deal. If we can get another 20 then we have the CBP to go and sign/trade for 1-2 big names.
Welcome home, Hayden Wesneski:

Apparently Heyman said in one of his livestreams earlier today that the Blue Jays were close with Santander. Take that FWIW.BadAggie said:

Yeah, just what we need. Follow-up a smart trade with a stupid one. Paredes isn't good defensively but he's not bad enough to do something like Arenado.BadAggie said:
