Seems like a good day to make a move and get some OF help. Dana, you awake yet?
Reminds me of the glory days of Jim Rome's Jungle, where he would implore Clippers' fans to call their team office and remind Elgin Baylor (then the GM) that the draft was the next day.

can't blame the Tigers

they are still dealing with the Javy Baez disaster

gave him an opt out...and of course he didn't take it

Detroit has paid $67 MM so far for 1.8 WAR from Baez

and he still has 3 years and $73 MM left on his contract

Completely agree with everyone's assessment of Bregman's worth. I don't want the tigers to lock into a 5 year deal. Have seen too much warning track power and GIDP from Bregman. For the right deal, he could be worth it.

However, even with Javy on the books and Tarik free agency on the horizon, this team has loads of money to spend. Ownership just refuses to do so. We could have have offered Soto more money than he signed with the Mets and still had a middle of the pack team 2025 team salary.

We used to spend. Not any more. Cheap

At this point is Alex better off waiting until ST starts and someone gets injured?

Seems like that's the only situation that'll get him what he wants.

What is it exactly that he wants? Is it the first $200M bidder? If it is, then I don't see that happening. He had a good, fair offer from the Astros and he didn't take it. I have a feeling that's going to cost him in more ways than just $$.

I wonder if teams think his asking price plus the QO are too high and they will hang him out to dry until July when the QO expires. It happened to Keuchel and Kimbrel several years ago.

Man that would be a kick to the chuggies.

I don't think it'll come to that. He'll have plenty will to do a Bellinger type deal. 2 year, 52 M with an opt out after 1.

I hope you are right. I don't want to lose the draft pick.

I don't know what he wants

I'm just thinking if you've waited this long go ahead and wait a little longer until someone gets injured and you're demand ticks up.

At this point what's another 3 weeks?

Another 3 weeks may mean mid-July before Breggy breaks out of his slow starts.

Bregman is a mid bat, elite defender. Not worth what he wants, the stros offer was very fair.

He's been an elite defender but frankly, having 2 elbow surgeries (even if they weren't UCL) would give me pause.

The Astros' projection won't match that of the best National League teams, but right now they project as the American League's best, about one to two wins better than the Orioles and Yankees on the strength of their spare starting pitching, which ZiPS sees as deeper than what the other two teams boast. It doesn't make them overwhelming favorites in the AL West, but with the Mariners and Rangers failing to take big leads forward, ZiPS still sees the Astros as a tier above their divisional rivals.

The comments in there on Melton mirror what others here have said, which is disappointing. I wish we had held onto Clifford.

sounds just like the projection of a poster a week or so back who claimed Crane is sitting on his hands this year hoping to only make bank and rebuilding for future years (sarcasm)

If the team stays healthy they will be very much in it come October.

I thought Ketch had indicated he had some diva-esque type demands that were putting teams off as well. Maybe with the Astros out of it he can elaborate a bit on that.

My apologies. I remember it being somebody that seemed like they had inside info, so I immediately thought of you. I think it came up during the time the story about Soto wanting a suite paid for by the Yankees came out and somebody said Bregman had some demands that were causing some friction as well. May have been as simple as he wanted to go to a team with spring training in AZ.

He can play a good CF and bats lefty. Those two things alone give him at least some value.

I can just imagine the Curb your Enthusiasm episode about this. Larry is a hall of fame voter, but through some horrible comedy of errors, his glasses are broken and he's up against the deadline to fill out the ballot. He makes a mistake and votes for someone other than Ichiro and sends it in. Sits down to watch the announcement and sees Ichiro miss unanimous by 1 vote, and somehow it comes out that he was the one who didn't vote for him. At the end of the episode he has a very awkward meeting with Ichiro at his house.

If they are worried about his arm strength and accuracy throwing to first base, I shudder to think about what happens in the outfield... Plus the additional wear on his body from running around the outfield all the time
