I agree, and I suggested this a while back. Move Seager to 1st, and get by at SS until Walcott is ready - maybe a Josh Smith/Zeke Duran platoon.

I still think the biggest concerns going into next season are Carter's health and what to do with Garcia. Does the org just assume this was an off year for El Bombi, or is it a sign he's tailing off. For the Rangers to have any chance of winning next season, we can't live with an offensive hole in RF and/or 1B. I'm less concerned about Heim because traditionally catchers are valued more for their defense than offense. And I think we need to add a good bat to the lineup, either at DH or as a position player.

Have they disclosed the actual injury yet? It's September so there are already a couple extra roster spots available now for each team, so if this was minor we could get by without putting him on the IL. But apparently they think it is significant enough that he needs more than just a few days.

Moving Seager to 1B (if he is ok with that) would open up a spot for Smith in the regular lineup. Then we could let Lowe go rather than pay him $10M or whatever he is going to get in arbitration.

I think we ride out Garcia. It'll be a contract year for him (I think he can be a free agent after 2025), so maybe he will be magically "locked in" all year next year looking for that contract. We won't get anything much of value for him in a trade, might as well roll the dice and keep him. If the team is doing well and Garcia still isn't performing, you can always make a trade deadline move for an upgrade.

Don't forget about Dane Acker and Winston Santos.

I've been all onboard with moving to Seager to first for the last year or so. It would save him from the wear and tear of SS and could solve a couple of issues.

First, our first baseman would be the best first baseman in MLB. So that's good.

Second, you could trade Lowe for help somewhere else and save $11MM or so on next year's roster.

Third, you open up SS for a possibly better defensive player. I can't get on board with Smith as the every day SS, but a platoon with Duran until a better solution arrives makes me feel ok.

re: Smith at SS...he's a definite upgrade defensively from Seager....which is what you almost have to get if you're going to move him off the position. I don't know that his offense would carry him as an everyday player, but he's effectively been an everyday guy this season and has been one of the best hitters on the team. Kind of still a TBD player IMO

*edit to add....he's currently got the highest OPS on the team for any player not named Corey Seager.
