He really needs the power to tick up. Even his doubles are more stretch-doubles than to the corners or to the wall in the gap. He's doing enough to be serviceable in the 4 spot right now, but those warning track outs need to start going over the wall.

I believe Langford has a bit of a top spin swing as currently constructed. I am sure they've worked on it some, but IMO a fix like that is an offseason overall so-to-speak.


Agree that he does appear to brush up on the ball like a tennis stroke too often. But he's had power at the college level and he had no issues with power in the farm system after being drafted or in spring training. So it's just been odd.

any chance the Rangers are buyers and sellers at the same time….. will get complicated to trade a pitcher to a team they might face in the playoffs. Just gonna use Rooker as an example….. but I imagine Oakland will want prospects for a Rooker and not guys like Urena + Dunning.

I expect exactly that to happen.

We need a bat. A lot of contenders need pitching. We will have a surplus of that.

Sellers don't want rentals and that is what we have a lot of. I don't want to see the Rangers give up any top prospects for a platoon player that will fill the DH role. Hopefully we can find a trading partner to fill a need while dealing an expiring contract and an add on prospect or two that doesn't fit in future plans (pretty much any position player in AAA).

I think this is the part of CYoung that could go unnoticed.

We have a great talent pool. We are not in a desperate position to add anything, especially knowing we just won the World Series with the talent we have.

All of our talk of adding is about Want... not Need. We have a surplus of talent in a position (SP) that almost every other team is desperate to add (sans Seattle).

It always seemed with JD we were in with everyone else. If we were buyers, so was everyone else and there was no market and we had to overpay. If we were sellers (Darvish) so was everyone else and we got little return. When we tanked... everyone else was tanking giving Houston an easy path every year. We followed what other teams did.

Let Sea and Hou mortgage the future to compete in '24 and it makes '25 even more exciting for the Rangers.

We are in a great spot as an organization. We won it last year. Yeah this year has been a let down so far but the worst case scenario was we traded expiring contracts and probably get a nice haul considering it's a sellers market. Now we get to roll the dice and fight the rest of the season. And guess what? We should be pretty talented next season too.

Kinda crazy we found a way to get back into the race considering Jung is still out, Garcia still ice cold, no Carter, Langford(still good) not playing at the level we initially expected. Just shows how loaded this team is.

According to Boch it sounds like Carter has regressed with his back. He's going to see a specialist in California and has been shut down. Looks like a long shot to play this season now.

It has to be unprecedented for a team in the race to sell quality starting pitching, but I could see it happening in this case. Lorenzen seems like a perfect one to move. I don't expect them to actually do it though, since we don't know what to expect from deGrom, Bradford, or Mahle, and Scherzer is likely to get hurt at any point.

Side note. I looked through the MLB article of best fits for each contending team and man, starting pitching is needed across the board. Would love to be able to swap a starting pitcher for a bat.

Of course, the article had us with Elias Diaz being the best fit, so not sure how good of an article it is. Unless the Rockies would take Knizner and someone like Duran, Huff or Wendzel(I wish), I don't see that happening. They won't be interested in an expiring contract on a pitcher.
