It's starting to remind me of the '76 Rangers. We traded for Bert Blyleven and he pitched fantastic, but we just couldn't score with what should have been (on paper) a fairly decent lineup. He wound up going 9-11 with a 2.76 ERA. The highest ERA of all the starters was 3.49, although Steve Barr stunk it up pretty bad in 10 starts (5.59 ERA for the season, 10 relief appearances as well). Team ERA was 3.45, but only won 76 games because we just couldn't score any runs.

Mariners lost, so there's that.

Looking for any Brock Porter news. Long term thoughts…

What I heard on a podcast (don't recall which, I think it was Jeff Wilson's) that the Rangers had Porter make some mechanical changes and that so far he's struggled with them. So they sent him to Arizona for a reset - as far as I know, he's been doing bullpens and such trying to iron out the problems and he'll be back on the mound in games fairly soon. Not sure if that will be in Arizona or if they'll send him back to low A.

To piggyback off of this, it's been a pretty bad year on the farm for the rangers outside of a handful of arms (not named Brock Porter of course). It feels like we're entering another 3-5 rebuild on the farm. There's just not a ton of talent down there right now, and what talent we do have isn't going to help this team for a good while or they're going to most likely be relief pitchers, i.e. Winston Santos and Emiliano Teodo).

He would be a freshman in college right now, right?

Robot umps might very well call this and similar pitches a strike. If you freeze this when it crosses Gardners front leg it's right at his knee. Combo of wicked vertical break and bad receiving. Similar to the Joe Nathan pitch against the Rays. That one may have been a tad down and away, but it wasn't nearly as bad as it looked.

Agreed about the farm.

I don't see any position players contributing to the MLB team in the next two, maybe three years. Walcott and Gutierrrez seem like the only ones with the potential right now.

Another reason I am all about trading a couple of starting pitchers for prospects.

I think he'd be ending his sophomore season.

I just looked it up and he would be a sophomore. Drafted in 2022.

Now I need to look up the 2023 draft because I have a complete mental block on that one now.

Thanks, and I definitely agree with that. Walcott looks promising, but is still a ways away. Kumar is a big time hope of mine. Still a year away. I did see he threw a live session the other day.

I did have high hopes for Gutierrez at one point. Not so sure now. Still a ways away.

I have high hopes for Rocker as well. He can at least find the strike zone consistently and has the stuff. His issue is that he's already 24 and has pitched only a handful of innings in like 3 years.

I love Nathaniel Lowe as much as anyone but, he has to figure it out. That was an awful at bat. Middle jn fastball he fouls off then two fastballs in the zone and whiffs.
