Wut? He's averaged 4 innings an outing and has a 6.75 ERA. He's started off worse than a JAG so far and really wouldn't put him in the category of someone who is helping us eat up innings

Agree. I think Heaney may better serve us in the pen.

Lot's of teams looking for someone like Heaney...

Heaney was a guy who accepted his option for 2024 @ $13M. If he gets 3 more IP he is making $20M. I see him as a reasonably priced and reliable Innings guy. He is also an experienced RP.

I've been beating a drum to trade him if/when an opportunity arises, but until then, we just need him to stay healthy, chew up innings, and keep us in the game. He did that today.

He could be moved into the BP, but being stretched out he has more value, IMO, as a SP. Lorenzen might replace him. They may Tandem. Who knows.

As a reliever, 3.2IP is chewing up innings.

As a starter, unless it's the playoffs, 3.2 is not chewing up innings. He hasn't yet had an outing that would qualify him for a win. You can't leave 5.1 for a bullpen to chew up on a regular basis. I think Heaney needs to be the first starter bumped. I'm not sure what he'll fetch via trade as a starter that can't eat innings. He seems to be good (looking back to last season) for at most two passes through an order. We'll see if that makes him more valuable as a flex guy for us or trade bait.

Trade him at his lowest value? We're better off with him in the pen IMO

Frisco roughing up Verlander tonight, 6 runs in 3 innings.

He has a nice 15 era in his rehabs starts

I'm here watching it. It's beautiful.

He is off to a slow start this season. He has a career 4.52 ERA.

There is no guarantee Lorenzen is better. We assume he will be, but then... I assumed Heaney would have better numbers.

That ERA will come down...
DallasAg 94

I don't disagree. Last year he averaged about 4.2 IP/GS.

I don't disagree, but I didn't see anyone raising concern before the season. I've been the one anxious to trade him and most rebuffed the idea.

No way we'd know he'd get off to a slow start.

I've been putting him on the trading block for months. Trade him now? No. But, if Lorenzen gets rolling, I'm listening to teams.

I have no interest in trading Heaney. At all.

But I do want to move him to the bullpen. He has a lot of value there.

Puuuuu boy

Smell that?

It's the stanky ass smell of **** coming from Houston. Our bullpen is STANKY. Astros have averaged close to 9 runs per game off our pitching. I'm so glad we have 1 win down here already, everything has been a struggle on the mound.

Absolutely. If for no other reason, his contract.

Trading just him would get us AWEFUL close to being under the CBT threshold.

There have been playoff contending teams that have swapped MLB players, where maybe you have an extra OF and another team has an extra SP and they swap MLB players, but I agree... can't really think of a team trading off a productive player for prospects. If we can do that, we can extend any window we might have.

In the case of Walsh, he has another year of team control so it opens up teams, IMO.

Ps who will be a FA like Heaney, Urena, and Lorenzen could get us a return.

I'm keeping an eye on (in order): LAD, NYM, and SDP. All of those are NL teams who tend to be reactionary and frivolous with some minor league talent.

I'm keeping an eye on Glasnow, Stone, and Miller. The moment Glasnow shows a twinge, I'm all like, "Hey...want to chat?" Dodgers have a thin margin on legit MLB SPs for 2024, with most of them being 2025 guys. Like Pepiot traded to Tampa, Stone and Miller are on the bubble like Bradford.

I'm still convinced Preller got Cease to flip him at/near the trade deadline. They know it is only a matter of time until the Dodgers get desperate.

Of course, all of that changes quickly, but fun to speculate right now.
It wasn't Glasnow, but Miller who appears to be hurt. It's all the same... his 2024 contribution is now in question, which was my angle. If any of those 3 can't contribute in 2024, they'll need SP. I'd take Miller or Stone if either stumbled. If Glasnow stumbles, I'm looking deeper into the Dodgers' prospects.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/04/dodgers-place-bobby-miller-on-15-day-injured-list.html

Quote:

Miller has undergone an MRI which revealed no structural damage to the righty's shoulder. Meanwhile, Harris adds that while Miller has been shut down from throwing for the time being, the Dodgers are "hopeful" that he'll be able to build up at a normal rate once he resumes throwing.
The article suggests Buehler as a potential replacement, but like Mahle and deGrom, is in the process of rehabbing TJ, albeit a little further along.

It goes into some of the SP options. The Dodgers didn't spend $300M to not have pitching.

The kicker is that I trust the Dodgers to find some rando in their system who throws 95+ and could give them a number of solid outings throughout the year. I don't think we have that in our bag.

Whoa. Didn't see that one coming. I guess CY and Boch are going to play the process of elimination game when it comes to the bullpen. Not a bad strategy when it's early, and you're still leading the division. Winn would be an out of nowhere surprise. Here's hoping. .

Hard not to like what Leiter is doing so far this year. 25 Ks/ 3 BB in 14.1 IP with a .98 WHIP. He keeps this up and we may see him before the break.

This team really needs the bottom of the lineup to pick it up. Last season when we had injuries guys like Leody and Duran picked them up. The only one really doing that right is Smitty but it's death by thousand paper cuts with him. Desperately need some guys (Langford, Leody, Duran) to find the barrel.

Some thoughts.

Let's remember we signed Lorenzen for $4.5M on a 1yr deal. I know expectations are high, but let's make sure we don't have unrealistic expectations. Like many, I'm excited to see him get a GS in Det.

Heaney accepted his $13M option for 2024. At 4.2 IP/GS in '23, there was probably enough caution by him to not want to test the FA market, less he end up like Lorenzen.

Martin Perez signed early with Pitt for $8M. He is at 1.89 ERA. Now in the NL, his ERA is likely to balloon as the season goes on, but it is a data point.

Bradford's back is disappointing, but gives us an opportunity to see Lorenzen. A&M's T&F coach has said elite athletes are pushing their bodies to do things they aren't supposed to do and injuries are inevitable. Hopefully this is just a break. Concern is that it is persistent. Thankfully, we have a number of guys in depth.

Winn is a complete surprise. Exciting time for him. Someone posted that they were letting him air-it-out in the minors. A Tepid tweet? We're far enough into the season that cycling some guys to see where they are and what they have is an opportunity. We have mostly multi-inning guys like Urena, Pruitt, and now Winn.

The multi-inning cycle should hopefully preserve Kirby, Robertson, and Latz. We need to see Sborz recover and Leclerc get back on track.

The Offense needs to start being more consistent.
