We had a party at our house tonight in Houston. There was common ground among Astros and Rangers fans over how comically bad Angel was tonight. It has to be historically terrible. In the moment, I don't think I've ever seen an umpire be so bad.

Just watched the game…..

I was yelling at my TV when Bochy brought in Anderson. I was saying hell no man…. We gotta get one game wrapped up before you experiment with this turd and of course Anderson proceeded to spew **** all over the ball park.

I think the guy is a gimmick pitcher who can't get outs in the majors. Sorry to say.

Annoyed that we let them get close, but it's nice to have a win salted away. If we lose the next 2, things are still ok. We would leave town with a 2.5 game lead that would probably go to 3 when we play Detroit.

Disgusting

I've been watching baseball a long, long time, and I cannot recall a worse start to the season for the umpires. It's been absolutely dreadful.

This was the highlight on Sportscenter!!!!
I wanna see our defense pissed off, not confused, maybe a little murder in their hearts Reload12, 11/4/11

Find you a spouse that'll support you like the ump union supports Angel.

Rough start for Jackson Holliday. 7 Ks in 11 ABs. He'll figure it out, but that just goes to show how big the leap is even from AAA.

Sure do wish we'd have pulled the trigger on the Cease trade with Duran headlining. Hopefully Duran turns it around soon and makes me eat my words but I don't know how many opportunities he's gonna have with Smitty's emergence.
Cant say I disagree with this one. Now, no one could've foreseen Josh Smith getting the first crack at Jung's replacement or even the fact that Jung would've gotten hurt, but it doesn't look like there's a slot for Duran in this everyday team right now. He's nice to have, but honestly he hasn't don't much this season either, and I really don't know what his value is.

It's definitely a massive leap.

I wasn't expecting Langford to be the guy from spring training, but I'm a little disappointed by the drop off from spring training results to what he's done so far. It seems like the umpires haven't given him any respect at all, he doesn't get any calls and often gets strikes called on him that are balls which is total bull****, but he also seems to be struggling to hit the ball out of the infield or with any pop / square anything up right now.

Wendzel hasn't done much at all since being called up.

Even so giving up Leiter and porter would've really stung.

Watching Duran possibly develop until an all star while Cease is pitching mediocre to below mediocre here would have been the **** tastic cherry on a crap sundae of a trade. I still thought it was way too high of a price to pay.

The problem I have with the potential Cease trade is not centered on Duran. It's who else is in that package that would have gotten him here. He's definitely a stud pitcher, but we would have been giving up a lot to add to a position that already has a numbers problem.

This is why I mentioned the other day that I could see the Rangers looking to trade away MLB players for prospects at the deadline. I know the farm system is ranked very high, but I look at the Frisco roster and I'm not seeing a lot of potential MLB starters. If the Rangers are looking for sustained success, trading away top prospects (I would put Duran in a package, by the way) doesn't seem like the direction to go

Or short version. When you signed Mahle to a two year deal, you told me that you aren't signing Montgomery or trading for Cease. The Lorenzen signing made perfect sense. But anything higher up the scale doesn't.

And there is a massive problem with the system when Angel Hernandez is allowed to retain his job after all of these years. Not only is he horrible at his job, but he's an arrogant, unlikeable, condescending ass to players and coaches.

Didn't Alvarez get hit with a curve ball? And then again on a different pitch in the foot. Not exactly how you go after somebody if you are throwing at them.

And what about those pitches at Garcia's head last night from Houston?

The umps definitely seem to be giving Langford the rookie treatment and making him earn his stripes. And not just Angel Hernandez. He's taken more than his share of bad calls at the plate.

He seems like a likable enough person in his interviews, but maybe he did (or does) something to piss off the umps.

I'm not really surprised that Langford isn't dominating (he's holding his own and doing ok IMO). Not because I don't think he's got the ability to do it, but because it's very rare that you see a rookie come up and really own the league.

Even Mike Trout - he had a fantastic first full season in 2012 (ROY) but it's easy to overlook or forget that he had 123 AB the season before and only hit .220 with a .281 OBP and a .390 SLG.

The exception is the Japanese players who come over as "rookies" when they've been playing in the Japanese version of our MLB and are much more experienced and ready to go when they get here. It's just hard to know exactly what you have with a young player until he gets quite a few ABs under his belt.

Langford is going to be just fine, same as Carter. But if you were expecting him to come up and dominate right out of the gate, you had unrealistic expectations. Sure, he had a fantastic spring training, but he was also facing an awful lot of pitchers who aren't going to sniff a MLB roster this season. That's why it's so hard to make assumptions based on spring training numbers.

It can't be very common for the 3 most impactful missed calls to be consecutive pitches

I agree.

Langford still needs to get his legs under him.

I think the Angel ring-up is another experience for Rookies. He isn't going to get many calls and will get rung up on questionable calls.

He'll get there, though.

Highly touted Rookie... Umps just want to get attention.

Yeah, Langford is fine. He's got a much better handle on the strike zone than I thought, which is the most encouraging sign for me. Is he hitting the ball hard right now? No. But that will come with more ABs seeing increased velocity and learning pro pitchers.

The A's pitched another gem last night on their way to another win. Again, the A's lineup isn't very good, although they have some young pieces, but their pitching looks pretty solid. I don't know where they will end up this season, but it feels like they are quite a bit better than the worst teams in the league.

I'm predicting it now... Rangers get to Blanco early and often.

6-7 ER in 3IP.

Blanco had limited historical info.

He increased his Changeup frequency. For his 1st game, it was a surprise and caught the team by surprise.

Rangers were likely not sure about the scouting. Having had a chance to see him... they'll be all over him this time.

This is an issue I have with a lot of guys, particularly in A&M baseball games where the umps aren't as good and tend to give a lot off the plate.

I get that every pitcher comes in to the game with a plan, particularly against specific guys. But when you see the ump is giving you strikes in impossible places to hit, you should just live there. You don't see pitchers adjust to that often enough, imo.

Austin Pruitt = Brock Burke

I don't get the move. Pruitt is nothing more than mediocre. He's given up 4 hits, 1BB, 2 ER in his last 2.1 IP.

Why not Hernndez, Church or Kelly?

Unfortunate for Foscue, absolutely. Doesn't really affect the team though, he sure wasn't going to get a lot of playing time. But it sucks for him.

I'm super bummed for Burke honestly, two years ago he had a 1.97 ERA with a 1.06 WHIP over 82 innings.. And then he's less than just a guy.

Seager - 1 pitch out
Carter - Full count walk

That's pretty ignorant coming from Tucker. You pitch a hitter like Alvarez inside. If Burke was trying to hit Alvarez I don't think he would've barely missed him in the same spot 3 times in a row.
