I mean pitching still is and will continue to be an analytical and physics driven position with momentum, stored energy, velocity etc., but as you said they could also do with adding a mechanical and even bigger health perspective, as in don't sacrifice the ability to stay healthy and sloppy mechanics just to throw a little harder.

This isn't a fix all though, with deGrom being a perfect example. There's no one more absolutely dialed in on their mechanics than him, and he still had TJ.

There's always going to be guys that get TJ regardless of mechanics. Throwing overhand is a destructive motion for your body. They've either got to get pitchers to stop going max effort constantly or figure out how to decrease the workload. Maybe that means moving to a six man and prorating any performance based incentives. Either way, something has to change or teams really won't have five major league pitchers on their roster.

Jomboy and Talkin Baseaball spent about an hour on this topic last week after the Shane Bieber news dropped. They threw around all sorts of ideas, some crazy and some more tame, such as introducing a max pitch velocity, especially at lower levels of baseball, or widening the strike zone again as to give lower velocity pitchers more room to succeed.

The biggest one that I thought could be implemented in short order and could really help was giving the baseballs more texture and grip, and making them more consistent. Tyler Glasnow has a really great video of him explaining that he 1000% believes that the baseballs being as slick as they currently are and the HARD crack down on any sticky substances two years ago was a major reason he injured his elbow and had TJ. He explains how gripping the ball harder and harder to get break on pitches with how slick these balls are puts a ton of strain on your forearm and elbow. I'll post it below.

I don't think velo is going anywhere, but maybe there are ways we can diminish the value on velo a bit.

If you had a difficult time getting a mini trophy last night it's because of jerks like this.

Same creeps that hoard new gaming systems when they are released.

I wish the Rangers would just announce 20 more trophy nights and flood the market for punks like that.

I thought they were only allowed to hand out one item per person? Like if I walked in with my four tickets by myself, I could get one but the other three people would need to be there to get theirs.

And by the way, I was way out of character a couple of nights ago after Leclerc blew the save. On the surface, it would appear that I lost my mind over a regular season blown save in April. I don't actually get angry about that.

Not to go into detail, but I had just received some very disturbing news regarding a daughter in college. The kind of news that any father would be ready to hop in the car and drive all night to the college over. You can probably put two and two together to figure out what happened on that one.

So I apologize for that outburst. Like I said, out of character and was dealing with something very difficult (and still am), but no excuse to show my anger over it in public.

Man, sorry to hear that. Once you mentioned having other stuff going on that night I felt bad for not just ignoring it. I've been there (with less serious things), when you want baseball to just be a distraction and then it lets you down at the worst time

I hope that you and your daughter get the peace you need.

This resonates with me. Not so much because of your situation (thoughts & prayers for that), but I too have been wrestling with my temper and patience due to some ongoing health issues. When you're uncomfortable physically or mentally, it's very easy to fall into the trap of lashing out in instances where you normally wouldn't.

I hope that going forward I will effort to extend more grace and consideration to those on this topic, because I'm certainly aware it has been freely given to me when I so clearly don't deserve it.

That is really well put. I've tried to tell my kids over the years to think about what some of their classmates might be dealing with at home. Making fun of another kid might absolutely be devastating for him/her. It's cruel and, for those that have faith, goes completely against what we should be doing here on earth.

Thank you for the kind words, guys. I don't mean to derail a thread that I have really come to enjoy. Just wanted to address that and then let you all get back to baseball.

For instance, driving back home from the game last night, my boys and I pretty much filled up the entire drive discussing who moves out of the rotation once Scherzer is ready. Or how they use Lorenzen. I know one dude that seems just fine being where he is right now and that's Cody Bradford.

Correct, but there's not shortage of homeless people in Arlington looking to make a buck. The guy above probably bought 20 of the cheapest tickets available, and then found 20 people looking to make $10 for just walking into the stadium.

That's what Mr. Gigem said, about 1 per person... but the guy who walked out of GLF and walked past me with 8 of them says otherwise.

I told my wife, when the resell/2ndhand market of txts was between $2-10... it makes sense to buy a bunch of txts and put the giveaway on eBay. I told her there'd be a flood of them on eBay before the end of the game.

There were 30K people at a Wednesday Rangers game against the A's. That guy does it because he makes money. At $150 x 16 (give or take)... That's $2400. Do that for 20 giveaways and you've got $48K. Not bad for a few "weeks" of work.

If you need a person... you can likely find a truckload of homeless people you pay $10 to and drop them off.

I agree that the Rangers could offer a 2nd chance on an additional giveaway. The problem there is, the giveaway is intended to drive the 30K on a Wednesday. People getting there 2hrs before the game. If they had offered 15-20K... maybe you don't get 30K people there that early.

As we await determination of Lorenzen into the rotation, I thought I'd throw this out there...

Bradford has faced 16 LHB this season. He has retired 15 and given up a BB (last night).

A quick look at Detroit and it looks like a RHP might look statistically better than a LHP. It might be worth letting Lorenzen get the GS and then tandem Bradford to finish. Could save the BP especially if Lorenzen gets up in PC.

Saw an update on that as well, so either 6 man rotation or one of Gray/Heaney get moved to the pen:

For sure. But I do like seeing Boras get slapped around a bit. He thinks he can set the market and force teams to meet his predetermined price for a given player.

It will be good for baseball if teams start offering 3 to 5 year deals instead of these 10 years deals that everyone knows the last few years of it are going to be a bad deal. That's not all on Boras, but he is a big driver of these deals.

I was just thinking that I bet I couldn't guess within five years of Boras' age. I guessed 63.

I was right about me being wrong. He's 71.
DallasAg 94

I couldn't tell if he was just trying to force a long-term deal, or if Boras was holding him hostage to get Snell money.

At $25M, I have to believe there were more teams that would have been willing, if not for the late move.

Everyone thought he'd be a Ranger. Maybe that speaks to the Rangers not wanting to deal with Boras?! At least with Ps. Rangers have Seager, Semien, and Jung under the Boras brand. Scherzer is, as well, but that was inherited.

We'll see if Monty gets traded at the deadline. Hard to see a reunion with the Rangers:
Scherzer:'24 then FA
Heaney: '24 then FA
Lorenzen: '24 then FA

2025 Rotation:
Eovaldi: '24, vO in '25 (146 IP)
Gray: '24 + '25 then FA
Mahle: '24 + '25 then FA

Dunning: '24, Arb2 in '25, Arb3 in '26, then FA

deGrom: Through '27 + 28 option
Bradford: Serf in '24 + 4-5 more years control

I believe Scherzer (39) moved his family (wife and 2 kids?) to DFW. Lorenzen (32) moved to DFW and has a wife and kids. I could see both looking at team favorable deals. Heaney accepted his option for '24, so that bodes well.

People said a retractable roof would make coming to Arlington more attractive to FA SPs. It doesn't hurt to have a Manager that focuses on Defense and having GGs all around the field.

Damn, the Astros cannot find any footing to start the year. I figured them taking two games from us would give them a spark but they're already down 5-0 (very reminiscent of our game) in the 1st.
