Btw Baltimore is 3-7 in their last 10. They also should have lost their last game if not for 2 errors by the Yankees in the last inning. They should be on a 6 game losing streak.

This should be a pretty good series that could foreshadow a potential playoff matchup:

Eovaldi (16GS, 2.97) v Burnes (19GS, 2.43, 118.2 IP, 110 SO)
Scherzer (5GS, 2.96) v Rodriguez (17GS, 3.88, 99.2 IP, 112 SO)
Heaney (18GS, 3.79) v Kremer (12GS, 4.38, 63.2, 64 SO)

Rodriguez is 24 and in his 2nd year. 122.0 IP, last year. From Nac-A-nowhere.

We need the bottom of the lineup to step up.

Nothing. Just the way I've always heard it toyfully referenced by many from there.

"Where you from?"
"Nack-A-nowhere."

Probably close to BFE.

Just messing with you. Been trying to keep up with some baseball podcasts and apparently Eovaldi could be traded if things go south. Obviously I would love to go on a run and win now but gotta figure trading Eovaldi, scherzer, Lorenzen, Robertson, and Yates would bring in a pretty nice haul. It appears it will be a sellers market so the haul could be better than expected. Kinda nice knowing that no matter what happens this season the future looks bright. And we just won a championship!

You can scratch Scherzer off of your "to be traded" list. He's already said he won't waive his no-trade clause.

Yeah I saw that interview also. I don't think he meant that. Would be odd to admit in an interview that you would like to get traded when your current team fails.

Completely disagree.

He's at the end of his career, and from all indications, really really likes playing in Texas. He has WS rings, so it's not like he's got an itch that hasn't been scratched.

Sometimes it really is a quality of life issue. I doubt he waives his no-trade, and I doubt the Rangers ask him to.

*edit to add* There's plenty of ways that players have addressed that question when it comes up that don't include "I'm not waiving my no-trade clause." They usually say something along the lines of "I'm focused on winning here and doing the best I can for this team" or "I'm taking this season day by day, and I'll address that if and when it comes up."

So you thinking that he takes a big pay cut to stay here next year? That would seem very likely based on all the things you just said.

I think it's possible he retires after this season. If he comes back next year, I expect it to be with Texas.

I think he's going to play at least 1 more year. He's still playing at a high level. Only way I see him retiring is if he has another injury before the year is over.

Eovaldi has a $20M pOpt that vests if he gets 62 more IP.

He has been mentioned as one of the core leaders of the P staff.

I know it has been suggested by podcasters, but everyone connected with the team, seems to think it highly unlikely Eovaldi gets traded.

He needs 11GS with less than 6.0 IP/GS to vest.

Scherzer has been clear in every interview I've seen of him.

He is 39 and currently #11 in SOs. JVerlander is 41 and #10, only 3 ahead of him. Scherzer will pass him on his next GS, tomorrow, to move into 10th. 1 more season could put him at or near #5 All-Time in SOs.

WHen asked what individual accomplishments he still wants to achieve, he has been clear. The only thing he is chasing is World Series Rings!

I think his bumping the Gray before ASB was him making a statement that we're going to win here.

If he is chasing rings... he likely agrees to being traded if the Rangers are clearly out. If the Rangers are poised to win next year. We have a chance to sign him. Will he sign cheap wherever he goes?! I have no idea. But, I could see him delaying his signing like Kershaw does, but I think Scherzer is too much of a competitor to not start the season on a roster.

You think Eovaldi would pick up that option if it vests or would he test the market? I wonder what kind of contract he could demand.

Here is what I know:
He'll be 35 before the 2025 season and has earned $114M.
He spends a tremendous amount of time helping the other Ps. From what I've heard repeatedly by multiple people is he mentors the others. He has spent time with Dunning helping him add a pitch.
He has already had a QO so, the Rangers can't offer him one.

I think he could use the $20M to leverage a contract that at 35, might not be available to him.

Just spitballing, at 35, I'm guessing he might try to get that final career contract. I don't know anything about him personally... spouse/kids/hobbies.

If Snell and Monty were looking for $25M+... Nola got 7yr/$25M per... What would you give Eovaldi who has shown he is a Playoff Ace, great clubhouse guy, and someone who speaks to other young pitchers?! FWIW, his agent is ACES.

Would he bite for a 3yr/$30Mper?! Is that too much?! Full no-trade, no options. Maybe some bonus milestones?! Problem will be CBT.

I'd pay almost anything for him to finish his career with Texas. Do Eovaldi and Scherzer like what we have in Texas enough to be willing to sign favorable team deals to keep the team together for 2025?!

Eovaldi, Scherzer, and deGrom for '25, '26, and '27?!

Assuming he doesn't collapse, I don't have any question that Eovaldi opts out to land that 3-4 year, $80-100mill-ish deal. Now I do think he'll work hard to make it work with the Rangers, but I'm worried about their tv situation taking them out of making those kinds of deals with anyone this offseason

I'd love to lock up Eovaldi, but as you state the lack of a tv deal could a problem. He is from Texas, and by all reports likes it here. Plus he is a great mentor to other pitchers, so if there is anybody you reach for, I think it is Eovaldi. Hopefully it works out.

Maybe Eovaldi and deGrom, but I think Scherzer has one more year left at most. HIs injuries have been mounting the last few years and he has made plenty of money over his career. I think he wants one more ring.

The tv contract won't remain an unknown forever. I would bet they have a much better idea of how that will work out this offseason. They will very much not want to have two straight offseasons of an unknown over their biggest source of revenue.

Aren't they out from under Bally's after this season anyway?

Pre game per Bochy:

No decision on final 2 rotation spots. "Remain flexible." Gray/Lorenzen...

Magle to go 3... maybe 4 Innings and Dunning will piggyback him. He mentioned 50 pitches. Not sure if that was Mahle or Dunning.

Jung took normal BP yesterday and today. Will take a light load tomorrow. Hopefully back in the next couple weeks.

Two ridiculously weak singles for Henderson. Combined exit velo may not reach triple digits...

Good thing about giving up 4 in the first is you have plenty of time to make it up. Evo seems to take an inning to get in rhythm lately. Bet he settles in just fine.

To be fair, their pitcher is one of the best in the game right now. It's only been 3 innings and we just had a decent chance for more.
