It's definitely you'd have to seriously consider, and a major negotiating point for a team inquiring.

Knowing the Mets, they're going to want multiple top ten prospects for Alonso, even as a rental.

That's why I was hoping we'd get off to a good start and bury Houston.

Bregman will certainly be up for bid. Not that they'll trade him to Texas, but it will flood the market with soon-to-be FA position players that will help bring down the cost.

SP, IMO, will be the measure teams use to decide if they can win in the playoffs.

I think CY will be careful making moves and avoid desperate trades to salvage a season. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. He was even pretty careful last season. Expensive rentals would be a huge no-no.

Shoot, I thought Scherzer was almost a bad deal. Just bad enough where I personally wouldn't have made the trade. I just thought is ability wasn't worth his contract or the trade pieces to get him, the only saving grace for me was the Mets pretty much paying his whole contract

Yeah, I think everyone here would agree that the Rangers need to be careful at the deadline. There's no need to give up anything if we are 10 games below .500 at the All-Star break, but if we are .500 and still within striking distance in the division and in the WC, then you'd be willing to make more moves. It's a tough exercise though, because we are likely in a four or five year window that we need to continue to make the most of.

I have to remind myself that baseball message boards are full of fantasy baseball players and guys that play MLB The Show on the regular. Trades are fun to discuss. Jamey Newberg absolutely adores doing it. But the only GM that does it anywhere close to how a fan would is AJ Preller, and he's awful.

The Rangers are not sending a big package for an outfielder when they have a returning All-Star in right field controlled for 2-3 more years, a 25 year old starting CF and two of the top five prospects in baseball in LF. Plus a really good fourth outfielder in Jankowski. Especially for a guy that is incredibly talented but whose injury history makes Josh Jung look like Cal Ripken Jr.

And for the record, I am not knocking trade talk. Baseball is a talking sport and trades are going to be a hot topic when a team is under .500. I'm all for it.

I think you are kidding yourself if you think CY isn't looking to improve this team, especially with Evan Carter on the shelf for a month+ and looking like a lost puppy at the plate this season. I don't mean this with any disrespect either. Just saying that CY's job is to improve the team, and outfield is a spot to improve at the moment.

CY is always looking to improve the team. That's his job.

You're kidding yourself if you think he is close to giving up on a 21 year old that was lights out in the playoffs and has been trying to play through a back injury that now has him sidelined for at least a month. Why would he do that?

Your trade proposal just sent out your starting CF and top pitching prospect (whether you like him or not) for a very talented outfielder that can't stay on the field. That is not improving your team. That is making the window smaller.

Yeah, CY will have a gut feeling on what to do in July. Baltimore was a little too conservative last summer when they had a real shot. They had a solid winter though. I hope CY is conservative in July. When Josh Smith has been your best player through 2.5 months, you have to realize this might not be your year.

OR... if your players are playing so poorly that Josh Smith is your best player and you're still at about .500... You have a real chance to win it all again*.

*If the rest gets back to where they should be.

I stand pat for now for sure. The OF is set for the future and at bargain rates. I don't F with that.

You dont even know what type of team you have and what help you need until you get more guys back… or more clarity that they aren't coming back for meaningful time

I'm not saying he's giving up and Carter or even Langford for that matter. I am just pointing out that we could use someone to help this team THIS YEAR, and maybe next year, if the team is still in the hunt. Just my personal opinion, but I think we rushed Carter in a major way and that he needs to spend some time at AAA figuring his swing out, especially against lefties.

Better?

So, the first "if" was a given, I thought. It is actually happening, per the post before.

Who would have thought we would be talking about trading for a bat after last season?

I do not think they rushed Carter. He has had a back injury before. I can't imagine how hard it would be to swing a bat like that with a bad back. It makes a lot of sense this has been bothering him a while. Hopefully the rest is all that he needs.

Langford is starting to show signs of coming around. Getting Jung back will fix a lot of the offensive issues as he will provide protection in the lineup that, imo has been missing this season.

If the team is still in the hunt, that means the offense is clicking.

At some point this month, this lineup will be adding a better bat than anywhere you can find in the trade market with Josh Jung. And you give up nothing to get him. Think of what impact the Astros lineup would have if Tucker or Alvarez had been missing for two months and were coming back. That's the kind of impact Jung has on this lineup.

Personally, I pass on any trade that brings in an outfielder. My outfield is set. If I am bringing in anything, it is a right handed 1B with as much power as I can find. I would love to see a dude at 1B/DH hitting fifth in this lineup (I have Jung at 3). I am completely 100% all in on getting one of those. But there is no one from the starting lineup getting shipped out to make that happen. CY and Bochy place too much emphasis on locker room chemistry to send out a starter.

I said this early in the season and very much still see this playing out. I think a starting pitcher or two could be moved out for that big bat. That's our position of strength where something could get done.

I can't help but find it ironic that we're now having conversations about Carter having been rushed to the majors and how it's negatively affecting his development, when there where quite a few on here last season who were pushing the agenda that he should have been called up even earlier than he was.

I said at the time he needed more ABs in the minors and to a large extent I got shouted down. He came up and did extremely well the last month of the season & in the playoffs, which surprised me quite a bit but I was really happy about it as well.

I think the Carter we've seen this season is a result of two things: first, he's having to make adjustments to the league adjusting to him, and second, he's clearly been having issues with his back most of the season. I went back and compared some video of him hitting last season compared to this, and it's a noticeable difference. I think he's been hurting more and longer than he let on.

I think you're exactly right. And I get it from his standpoint. You've accomplished a lifelong dream of playing in the major leagues. You lived out the dream scenario last season and won a title and have nailed down a spot on an MLB starting lineup.

And now your back hurts. Do you tell someone, knowing that your playing time is done and you have an IL stint with time out in Arizona and then rehab back in the minors, or do you try to work through it and keep living the dream.

He's 21. Every single guy at that age is going to convince themselves that they are fine when they really aren't.

Really looking forward to tonight's pitching matchup. Both Top 20 MLB pitchers in ERA among qualifiers (Lorenzen is 8 inning short of being a qualifier - probably one start away from getting there).
