That's what happens when you retire. That and you talk to people a lot more than they want you to talk to them....

I wasn't keeping up during the game but was it discussed why was YK pulled last night?

IIRC he was at 80 something pitches with 2 outs and the lefty Masataka coming up.

Just thought it was odd timing.

Was the PHer announced after Scott was announced?

The pinch hitter was announced after we brought Scott in, but Espada should have known they would bring him in once we pulled Yusei. Really bad managing by Espada basically begging Cora to bring in his 3rd best hitter.

Yup

I asked because I would've just let Yusei finish the inning with 2 outs or bring in a lefty if you feel you had to yank YK.

Masataka doesn't get ABs against lefties because he's that bad.

It's little things like this that could rear their ugly head come playoff time.

YK got me thinking, how many pitchers have we fixed/developed during this run?

Fixed
  • Kikuchi
  • Taylor Scott
  • Montero - but he broke again
  • Stanek
  • Maton
  • Raley
  • Cole - elite talent, but needed HOU to put it together for him.
  • Verlander - already on the HOF path but was trending down at 34 before he came to Houston. HOU ERA (34-41) is a whole run lower than DET (22-34)
  • Morton
  • McHugh
  • Harris

Developed
  • Keuchel
  • McCullers
  • Framber
  • Urqudiy
  • Garcia
  • Javier
  • Abreu
  • Blanco
  • Brown
  • Peacock
  • Devinski

I am sure I am missing some and there is some we can probably argue about, but what an arm factory.

So much of pitching comes down to confidence, and I do think our clubhouse culture infuses a lot of confidence into these guys

Surprised I didn't get takers at work for tonight's game - so anyone looking for 4 tonight claim them (first to post) and then PM me the email address you want them sent to

I'll take them if not claimed!

Or you see that Kikuchi was at 99 pitches, the last 3 batters hit the ball 104.1, 106.5, 107.8, & he's terrible the 3rd time thru.

Cora has a lineup of tough match ups bullets to fire. That is how the Red Sox roster is constructed.

Yea but I still would've let him go one more batter, dude deserved it to go 1 more. He was dealing, I don't think Cora would've brought in a PH if Yusei would've stayed in the game.

But then again...I'm only a "Couch Manager" I don't get paid the big bucks.

This right here. At a minimum, you bring in another lefty just so you don't have to see Yoshida in that spot.

Getting JV and Tuck back (whenever that might be; more unclear for Tuck) will feel like trade deadline roster bumps for a playoff run.

Pitching has been absolutely incredible because no way we should be winning any games with Meyers, Dubon, and Chas consistently in the lineup.

And now throw in Singleton and Whitcomb and it looks even worse.

Our lineup's batting average today in the month of August:

.258
.407
.313
.302
.286
.143
.196
.300 (3 for 10 with 5 K's)
.100

Need a gem from Ron White and the top 5 to hit some HR's!

I think it is time for Chas to go on a run. I've liked the way he has been more reactive and trying to go oppo in his last couple of ab's instead of those agressive whiffs he has been doing almost all season.

We'll probably put up 12, setting the stage for a no show in JV's return.
