This is how I see tonight going:
Bloss Hog comes out and drags his nuts all over the Os and we lose 2-0
Or he comes out and gets lit up and we lose 12-6
Or Bloss drags nuts and leaves with the lead and the BP coughs it up late
With this team you just never really know. All possibilities are on the table. It's a real crap shoot

good to see Dubon at SS
Pena needs time off
just 16 x-base hits and 12 walks approaching the halfway point of the season
last year he had 45 x-base hits -- where did the power go?
I was pretty dang close, but Meyers in 5th? With the month he's having? come onredline248 said:

No one after Diaz is either...f1ghtintexasaggie said:
Hey, Joe! Jake Meyers isn't a five-hole hitter. HTH
I'm not convinced bat speed is particularly important. If a guy wants to artificially inflate it he can just use a lighter bat. Also, wasn't Abreu's well above average?redline248 said:
Speaking of Cabbage, he has an average bat speed of 76.2 mph. That is the highest on the team, and if he qualified would place him at 9th in MLB.
So far he's only squared up 21%, though.
Singleton at least will draw a walkBeat40 said:No one after Diaz is either...f1ghtintexasaggie said:

I somewhat disagree. There is a clear correlation between bat speed and damage. Kind of like just knowing a pitcher's velo. It's important. That alone doesn't paint a full picture. We need to know location, spin, etc, With bat speed we also need to know swing length, contact rate, launch angle, etc.MaxPower said:I'm not convinced bat speed is particularly important. I think I would describe it as "slightly above average," but bat speed is definitely not the end all metric. Guys like Yordan and Soto live in the quadrant above average in both bat speed and squared up, and clearly have the results to go with it.MaxPower said:I'm not convinced bat speed is particularly important. Yup. The offense is alarmingly short with him out. Especially when the back half is inconsistent.texasaggie2015 said:
I really, really need Kyle Tucker to get back in that lineup.
Kyle Tucker is running on the treadmill, but his progress continues to be slower than the Astros hoped, Joe Espada said. Still no on-field baseball activities.

We'll see him in August

The difference with pitching velocity is the object being moved is always the same weight. If they considered bat length and weight with speed to calculate energy then seems like a much better statistic. That's probably also why guys like Altuve have slower bat speeds but can square balls up better (heavier bat with larger sweet spot). In fact, if a guy has a really high bat speed that's probably an indicator he should use a heavier bat.Farmer1906 said:I somewhat disagree. There is a clear correlation between bat speed and damage. Mrs. Marvin and I are heading out for Omaha (again). Any fellow Astros fans going to watch the Aggies?
A Lance McCullers Jr. update: he's scheduled to throw his first up-down tomorrow. He'll throw 25 warmup pitches, sit in the bullpen to mimic an inning break, and then throw more. He'll do that one more time and then they'll start talking about facing hitters.

I think Loperfido has a better contact ability but much less power. They're both close to the same age. It's interesting how the fanbase sees Joey as a future stud but wants no part of Cabbage.
Joe Espada on Joey Loperfido: "First base continues to be an option. This is his third time up here — I'm really going to look for some spots to get him in there and take advantage of his bat. The next couple of series, there's some right-handed pitching that I like his matchups"

Astros reliever Kendall Graveman is in the middle of a throwing program with a remote chance that he could come back in September. Graveman said his Jan. 10 surgery was to repair a torn labrum and clean up his rotator cuff.
