So, I think there is some disconnect. While I don't think Abreu is any good anymore, there is a difference between when a baseball guy evaluates a player and a fan evaluates a player.
How many times have you heard a former baseball player say a hitter is close based on what they are seeing and within a week the player breaks out? The fan just sees the outs and says this guy is sucking. This situation happens ALL the time.
So, you can't just say because Espada said he's looking better or hitting the ball better, or whatever he says that he's lying. Despite his bad play since coming back, he has hit some balls well over 100+mph.
Point is, baseball guys and fans evaluations are usually different.
I'd rather see Loperfido most days, but this is at least a step in the right direction.Wabs said:
Doobie getting the start at 1B tonight. I guess that's an option we'll see more often. I remember several on here calling for this in April.
That's my dog. Shame he's too valuable to trade but not valuable enough to play more.Wabs said:

Dana Brown after releasing José Abreu: “I don’t think there’s a teaching moment here.”

Hearing from sources that José Abreu got so mad when he was released that he tried to punch Jim Crane but he was already in the other room by the time Abreu finished swinging

I heard he tried to throw a baseball at him, but lost the grip on it while picking it up and booted it towards 2nd base.tjack16 said:Hearing from sources that José Abreu got so mad when he was released that he tried to punch Jim Crane but he was already in the other room by the time Abreu finished swinging

they nailed the Abreu situation
I wish he would've juiced while in Houston. My official opinion is he was the worse the Astros have ever handed out. And I'll be the first to admit I was excited about getting him last year. Granted, I never watched the white Sox and didn't know a ton about the back of his baseball cardChef Elko said:
Abreu is going to land somewhere and then get on the sauce
The more I think about this, the more obvious it is. We can go from near the bottom of baseball to top 10 by using league minimum guys. That perfectly counteracts the wasted money on Abreu. Unless we're 99% sure we're going to get Alonso we'd be stupid not to. And even then Alonso is 13th in xwOBA. This combo would be better based on expected data.Farmer1906 said:Not me. I would 100% go get him and platoon him with Singleton.texasaggie2015 said:
He started hot but he was horrendous in Boston. I would stick with what we have and be looking at the trade market if it's me.
Check the vs LHP #s
If you take Cooper's .377 xwOBA vs LHP and add it to Singleton's .352 xwOBA vs RHP then you have ~.360 xwOBA hitter at 1B the majority of the time. That would rank 8th in baseball for 1B just behind guys like Pasquantino & Naylor.
Then use the prospect capital to get arms.
What do you have to lose?
they should give him a kick in the ass for his horrendous signing.cc10106 said:
Will Astros fans give Crane a standing ovation before today's game?

I didn't hear the audio but those bullets are the most GM sounding Brown has sounded since becoming GM. Maybe he's finally winning some influence? Fingers crossed.cc10106 said:
Brown/presser on 790 saying he led the process of Abreu's DFA
- Jon will get most of the ABs
- Dubon will play more at 1B
- Loperfido probably back up by 21st, may get some 1B opportunities
- not looking to trade more prospects for rentals
- doesn't like signing guys until age 38 and older (asked about Tucker i think)

Am I the only one who hates dubon?
I have no idea how he is on a major league roster
