Wow, 4 walks in three games….

I was given a timetable several weeks ago of mid-June for Espada if things don't start turning around. I wonder if that's still the case today.

It doesn't really need to make a difference this year. Firing Espada and bringing someone else in (probably temporarily) sends a message. I think Brown should go, too. The decisions that are being made with this roster are mind-numbing.Ag_07 said:texasaggie2015 said:

If you promote someone from within as an interim is that any better? Is it even possible to bring in someone from outside mid-season?
yes, we discussed this a couple of days agoBlackbeard94 said:

and it's one indication that Bregman is all out of sorts
he walked 92 times last year
but only has 19 walks this year past the one-third point of the season
drawing walks is a big part of his game
I agree, but more palatable for everyone if its a home run hire / obvious upgrade. Wont take much. Money whipping in this department would be fine with me, same goes for an Espada replacementMathguy64 said:
Unloading Brown to be on your 4th GM in 5 years is a bad look. You have to wonder who would want to be here.
As Yainer Diaz’s offense dwindles, the Astros still seem encouraged by his evolution as an everyday catcher - https://t.co/1gQHeojODH

And near the top in swinging at first pitches and fewest pitches per at bat. You would think that being more selective would provide better contact opportunities- that makes sense in my head, anyway. Unfortunately, that is not the way the Astros coaches want their hitters to think. It is green, go, pedal to the floor when they leave the on deck circle. Even average pitchers look good when they get you to swing at pitches out of the zone.
It's pretty ridiculous. He should at least be batting late in games, especially extras. The guy may swing at some stuff out of the zone, but he puts the ball in play and has an extremely low strikeout rate.BCEDAg said:
I know I'm overstating what everyone has been saying but not playing Dubon is a travesty and totally incomprehensible.
If youre not putting Dubon in the starting lineup then why in the hell do you have him pinch run rather than hit in extra innings with the potential lead run in scoring position? Dubon can at least hit it to second base to move the runner over.
But our illustrious manager bats Chas instead and never calls a bunt. Can't make this stuff up.
This is my take on the season so far and the end of last year. The cracks started to show and then the pressing started. Now being under 500, a contract year for Bregman, New team for Hader, new role for Pressley, Yordan not getting pitches because the hitter behind him is not a threat. So many things that are not in the norm for these guys.texasaggie2015 said:
A lot of that is pressing- something we haven't seen a lot over the last several years.
Guys will go through highs and lows every year, but when the team isn't performing well and extra pressure to perform is added, I'm sure it makes it a lot more difficult to get through it.
As far as swinging early in the count goes, some of that is the scouting report but I imagine most of it right now is pressing and trying to do too much.
Edit: This is my opinion

He's not worth $5M. Cut his ass.W said:
Bregman is playing himself out of a qualifying offer at this point
don't want to pay him $21 MM for next year -- even for just 1 season
