Team isn't losing because Abreu stinks right now. We have much bigger issues. I don't think it's reason to bring up Loperfido yet unless they want to give up on Singleton. Loperfido still needs more time.
Fact is, Abreu can hit 8th or 9th and he's just a Maldy (or worse) replacement if he doesn't get his act together. If Abreu starts hitting like he is capable of from August and into the playoffs of last year, we're going to need him and there's nobody else better to replace that.
So he needs to get going, get regular starts. If we're approaching the trade deadline and he's hitting below the mendoza line and sporting a sub .600 OPS, while the team is still not anywhere near in playoff contention then maybe some hard decisions need to be made.
His performance so far is abysmal but I have a hard time believing he won't figure it out. What's killing us is that there's a lot of our players that are "figuring it out" along with Abreu right now.
