Since we suck, thought I'd recirculate this article on possible trade fits for Framber. How much better would you feel if we made that Red Sox deal? At this point, the Orioles seem the most likely fit if it comes to that. Give me Mayo instead of Cowser (who is looking like a fixture there now anyway) to go with Norby and Povich. Mayo can man first so we can eject Abreu and gives us a backup plan at 3B if Bregman leaves. Norby takes over LF so McCormick an be the r eryday CF. Povich likely fits better as a lefty long RP but we suck everywhere so I will take what I can get.

If we are out of it then I wonder if Marte from the Reds becomes a target since he can't play in the playoffs, which means he can't help the Reds.

So Crane, Reggie, Bagwell, and who else? That comment is pretty telling about how far this organization has strayed from what got them to where they have been.

I just saw some odds to win the AL Pennant just now on MLB network..
Yankees were -375
Astros were -400
Rangers -600
Oriols -600

Someone must think our pitchers will be coming back soon? I'll be ready !

Is Dana really involved in free agency? Seems like Jim negotiated all the contracts since he got hired.

Is it possible Dana is in charge of farm system, trades and roster moves while Crane is in charge of free agency and extensions (or at least drives the argument on who and how much)? The guys on the radio this morning (Salisbury show on 790) said Brown was hired mainly for his ability to build the farm system back up

You're right. The GM has no involvement in FA yet 4-5 other guys do.

I suspect this is the case. However, Crane isn't helping him much because signing Hader costs us our second round draft pick and we have the lowest bonus pool of any team in baseball.

Y'all need to tune into MLB Network. Boston catcher just got tossed and Boston is out of bench players. Ninth inning tied with Baltimore,

Is it really all that far fetched based on what has happened? JV and Hader we're Crane deals. If Snell had happened that was gonna be all him. Any extensions are all Crane. I have a feeling Graveman was Crane too. That leaves Carantini as the only other move that Dana could have been involved in. Dana gets run out in press conferences to act like he was involved.

The great thing about being Loperfido is that you have nothing to lose. The current 1B is 2 for 60 or whatever, you could take every pitch for the next 15 games and have better production.

The thing about Loperfido is he can't be any worse. Other than eating the money there is no downside. By the end of the month if things haven't improved with Captain Lou, you won't have much choice.

16.43 ERA here on the young season. I'd take 6.50 from him by July at this point.

This has just been a terrible showing across the board.

Yeah. Gotta hit for more power to drive in runs. It's just anemic right now. It's not like 1983 where you can hit a bunch of singles and steal bases.

Actually with the pitch clock and limited throw overs you can. The league made rules to emphasize speed and it's showing. The problem is our team isn't made for these rules.

Well, then let's go find the next Ricky Henderson or Vince Coleman or Willie McGee.

In all seriousness, I'm totally okay with the game evolving (or back to the future) because I like a faster and more strategic game than station to station and wait for the 3 run HR.

Very few teams are bringing a guy up because of a hot start in April. The orioles did with Holliday, but he was the #1 minor leaguer. Im sure if this guy keeps a hot hand he'll be up soon, but the team has to consider a lot of things in terms of his service time, etc as well.

Hot Spring + April...

He is similar to Dirden last year except 2 differences... Dirden immediately went cold in AAA and he played a position that the Astros didn't absolutely suck at. Loperfido is doing keeping it doing as well as playing games at 1st base

We need to calm down just a bit. Remember how Singleton has raked at AAA before. It's a big jump in the pitching quality between minors and big leagues.

Quote:

He's made two Triple-A starts this year but they have not gone well, to put it mildly. He allowed seven earned runs in 5 1/3 innings, striking out just two opponents while walking five. Topkin relays word from Odorizzi, who says he's been dealing with a hamstring strain. He will heal up and then start throwing again before looking to sign his next deal.

No thanks

Team isn't losing because Abreu stinks right now. We have much bigger issues. I don't think it's reason to bring up Loperfido yet unless they want to give up on Singleton. Loperfido still needs more time.

Fact is, Abreu can hit 8th or 9th and he's just a Maldy (or worse) replacement if he doesn't get his act together. If Abreu starts hitting like he is capable of from August and into the playoffs of last year, we're going to need him and there's nobody else better to replace that.

So he needs to get going, get regular starts. If we're approaching the trade deadline and he's hitting below the mendoza line and sporting a sub .600 OPS, while the team is still not anywhere near in playoff contention then maybe some hard decisions need to be made.

His performance so far is abysmal but I have a hard time believing he won't figure it out. What's killing us is that there's a lot of our players that are "figuring it out" along with Abreu right now.
