He threw three scoreless innings against the Dodgers minor leaguers and hit 99.1mph, his fastest speed ever. He's also developed some quick pitch moves. Come on…give the guy a shot!

I think the best comp that I can tell for Rangers package would have been:
Leiter
Foscue
Gutierrez
Bradford

That makes a little more sense as to why we didn't try to top.

Rest assured, the Rangers have a good feel for the market. They'll price tickets to not leave much on the bone for those who wish to resell.

It also helps season ticket holders since there's a higher floor for face value.

That being said - Opening Day sold out in like an hour when they opened up extra ticket sales to Season Ticket holders. I forgot about the event until an hour after it started, logged n and the place was cleaned out.

For my peasant level of STH... the tickets available were mostly 300. There were 2 in 142 @ $200, but the 302/305 sections were $150-175.

My BIL's father has terminal cancer. I was checking to see if they wanted to go one last time, but he goes into Chemo that day. An Opening Day of his own, I suppose.

Prediction for 2024.

I believe there will be a narrative around the failure of RPs all through MLB in 2024.

Last year, the number of SP lost to injury in MLB was substantial and I narrated through the season the plight of teams like Tampa and LAD. Spring hasn't been kind to the SP and going into 2024, IMO, the overall SP will be mediocre.

At a much faster pace this Spring... RPs seem to be dropping. Sure 5 SP and 7-8 RPs. That extra RP expands the necessary depth, but also exposes teams more when SP gets into trouble.

Having multi-inning RPs is going to be a growing trend/necessity in 2024.

Normally, I'd say no, but I'm a "consider all angles" kinda guy. There have been a couple SPs that seemed to make it until after OD to sign. There was speculation it was because of the loss of Draft picks (5yrs ago or so?!)

I expect most teams are taking inventory of their team... comparing their team to others. Much like we're doing.

I haven't completely followed the Padres, but Preller appears to be once again retooling the organization.

Padres lost Snell (32GS), Lugo (26GS), Wacha (24GS), Nick Martinez (9GS), and Rich Hill (5GS) for a total of 96 GS that walked in Free Agency. 60%. It is like players don't want to go there and being traded is Preller's only real option.

Musgrove had 17 and finished 2023 on the 60IL. Darvish (37) had 24GS and is owed an average of $16.6M for each of the next 5 seasons (to age 41).
