Not sure if I've ever been more sure of a prospect than Langford. I think we've got a special one baws. Insane he fell to us.

Yes. Saw a video about it the other day. No more running in that 3' lane.

Inky?

They brought him up at - 19?

I took my dad to his first home game. I think against White Sox.

They challenged him to steal second after first walk. The guy was hust starting his slide when the ball got there. My dad turned to me and said "that's the strongest arm I've ever seen."

And it was.

He was 22. Incaviglia is still the all-time HR leader in NCAA history. Played at Okie State and never played in the minors before he debuted with the Rangers.

I know most of us are too young to remember but David Clyde was a big as it gets. In terms of hype, Langford is Teixeira ++.

David Clyde's career was destroyed by the incompetence and desperation of the early Rangers' management/ownership. Called up straight out of HS, was way over his head. Sent to the minors where he blew his arm out. Stupid, stupid waste of an amazing talent.

We really needed Langford. Nice to finally see some drafting success. The 2010 drafting history for the rangers is pretty bad with the emphasis being placed on high school and " high ceiling / low floor" big risk types.

Dillon Tate was a massive waste of good draft position. Nearly everyone around us got a good player that year.

Just for fun and now being where we are with Langford and having seen Paul Skenes pitch against pros, which player would you rather have if you could go back to the draft and have the 1-1 pick? I say this believing that both guys have gifts that are special.

Anyone without season tickets able to access opening day tickets through rangers insider? I can't access them this morning. Bought them that way last year easily but I know this year is much different.

I seem to recall he hit a HR in ST that went through a billboard.

Anyone recall that story?! I couldn't find the details.

I'm tickled we got Langford.

From what I saw, they're sending him (Skenes) down to the minors and told him it would be unprecedented for him to go straight in to MLB as quickly as it would be for him.

I think he'll be a pretty good talent, but I also think teams will figure him out. Players are starting to hit him harder the more they see him.

I think you were one touting Cauley - Rangers 2Ber. He played last night in the Breakout game. They interviewed him and he basically said that he had to retool after getting drafted. As he said, "My high school game doesn't translate to this level." He basically said he had to see his game fail in order to see that he needed to listen to coaches and make some improvements.

I think Skenes is going to go through a period of doubt where he gets hit hard and he'll have to trust his stuff and make some adjustments. Almost every P does and he is showing signs that will happen to him.

I recall it being the outfield fence rather than a billboard. Obviously I wasn't there, so going off of memory from the stories. I could've been a ratty fence that was needing to be replaced, but he reportedly he hit a ball through it.

3. Incaviglia's hole-in-one
Spring Training 1986

Pete Incaviglia, acquired from the Expos in the offseason, was taking batting practice early in Spring Training at the old Municipal Field in Pompano Beach, Fla. He swung and hit a line drive to left field that crashed through the wooden outfield fence.
"That's one-inch plywood," then-Rangers manager Bobby Valentine said. "Awesome."
"If anybody has seen me hit batting practice this spring, they know why I'm here," Incaviglia said.
Actually, the wood was rotting at a ballpark that was in its last Spring Training before the club relocated. But Rangers public relations director John Blake milked it for all it was worth, giving tours to the media throughout camp.

Honestly, I don't care if Clark or skenes develop into all stars 5 years from now. I'm glad we got Langford. Kid is going to do very very well in mlb and soon.

Looks like our friends down South might be making moves.

Urquidy left with an elbow issue.

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/03/astros-in-serious-pursuit-of-blake-snell.html

Looks like Snell-to-Houston may have some legs.

I'm not sure if that concerns me. It is the type move a team does that becomes desperate to save their season. I'm guessing it started getting momentum a week or so ago, which may add to the Rangers staying interested in SP and even kicking the tires on Cease.
DallasAg 94

Astros.

Not seeing confirmation, so I could be wrong... but they are certainly in the mix.

Snell through in Seattle and Hou and SFG were there. Rumors are 4... maybe 5 teams in the mix, but seems more likely Houston, if not already done.

DallasAg 94
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's a double-edged sword and why I'm good starting the season, "as is."

Without Snell, if Urq is out and JV misses the 1st month, they'll likely start slow. When something happens and they need to make a move, they have some options.

Sign Snell, lose your #2 AND #3 draft pick... your #1 drops 10 spots, you lose an additional $500k in Intl Pool money($1Mtotal with Hader), your are in the 3rd Tier of CBT... you really won't have many options when things go South.

I really thought Snell would be signed, yesterday. Too much smoke.

But, I guess with Cease off the table... Boras may have used an inquiry about Snell to broadcast an imminent signing to leverage Cease being taken off the market.

In the end, a signing of Snell who has a QO is substantial for a 1yr rental. You give up your 2nd Rd pick.. or 3rd if you already lost your 2nd.

Teams like NYY and HOU just can't (shouldn't) give that up.

In '22, we lost our 2nd and 3rd (Seager and Semien) but were able to get Porter (#11 ranked prospect) in the 4th by taking Rocker (the '20 #10 pick) who was recovering from injury.

In '23, we also lost our #2 and #3 for Eovaldi and deGrom. Which makes getting Langford so awesome.

However, we signed 3 of those 4 to very favorable contracts short-term and if they show long-term production, they will outlive any prospect lost. Seager at 28, Both Seager and Semien contracts end at age 37.

Easy to argue winning the WS was worth losing 4 prospects and we don't win it without Seager, Semien, and Eovaldi. All 3 give us contending status in '24, as well.

deGrom returning could be a difference maker. Or a bust.
