I live 15 miles from Oakland. There is a lot of money and suburbs in the Oakland area that could support a team easily. The entire Bay Area isn't a massive homeless camp like TexAgs or the media would have you think.
One of the biggest hurdles is that the Giants own the rights to build in almost every city outside of Oakland proper and will not budge to allow the A's to build in the surrounding counties. The A's owner could also make it work Alameda county, but he is clearly motivated to tank the team, spurn the city government who want to work with him, and move to Vegas.
Something I've observed living here is, Oakland fans >>>SF fans. I feel so bad for friends and neighbors who have seen the Raiders, Warriors, and now A's leave. Most Oakland fans are die hard, lifelong fans, with character. Most SF fans are all corporate tech bro types with zero passion.
I'll miss seeing the Astros 10 times a year when they move. The fans in Oakland deserve so much more than this.
