They have money committed to Betts & Freeman. Everyone else is cheap, in arbitration, or pre-arbitration. They're paying 3 guys more than 10 M. We are paying 9 guys more than 10 M (not counting Framber & Tucker who will be above that).tjack16 said:
I just don't get how the Dodgers have so much more money than we have. We've had more success and have spent less.

Buehler will be back. Year 2 of Miller. I would expect them to land one of Cease, Burns, or Glasnow. They have plenty of money to spend too.
Their lineup is going to be nasty with the top looking something like this.
-Betts
-Freeman
-Ohtani
-Smith
-Muncy
I except them to be very good and challenge the Braves for best record in baseball.

Dodgers have been getting things to make a run at Ohtani for 2 years.
Perfect day to announce Juan Soda to the Yankees. https://t.co/BqahCNVgLe

I'm guessing our Abreu and Montero deals aren't helping much. Still frustrating how it seems like they are in play for literally every trade and free agent every year.

Sure - but if it meant Ohtani ends up somewhere like Atlanta, I'd like it a lot less if Roberts screwed it up.Lonestar_Ag09 said:

Perfect fit. Dewsh player to a Dewsh filled franchise

I feel like Crane should let Dana spend $11.5M over whatever our limit would be. Basically, let him operate like the stupid Montero signing didn't happen.
That $17.5M to LMJ hurts, too. It's like the two seasons we paid JV a combined $66M to not pitch for us.

Yankees and Padres are said to be making significant progress on a Juan Soto deal. No word it’s done or official yet.
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) December 6, 2023
When asked whether there’s enough momentum for the Juan Soto deal to be consummated by the time the Yankees and Padres go to the airport this afternoon, one executive involved with the talks, said ‘Maybe. I can say progress is being made,’

I'm assuming a trade for a player like this would need to involve ML players but would this ease the pain of losing Bregman? Just throwing a name out there, worth about 9 WAR in '21-22.As the Padres and Yankees continue working toward a Juan Soto trade, Jake Cronenworth is another trade candidate for San Diego, as @Feinsand said. Cronenworth’s seven-year, $80 million extension begins in 2024. He has an eight-team no-trade clause that kicked in this offseason.

When he's been mic'd up, he's never seemed like a bad or unlikeable dude. Sure, he's had the cocky antics in the box, but if that's the worst, then alright.Farmer1906 said:Beat40 said:I know I'm in the minority, but I like Soto.Mr.Bond said:linkdude said:Perfect day to announce Juan Soda to the Yankees. https://t.co/BqahCNVgLe

Soto the offensive player is amazing. But personally, I'm not a fan.

Joc Pederson signing with the Phillies is like "what if we had another version of Kyle Schwarber, as a treat"

A Phillies source says they haven’t signed Joc Pederson.

Joc Pederson posted a cool/funny photo of him and the Phanatic on IG, but it doesn't mean he's signing with the Phillies. They haven't even talked this offseason.

What a job!
The #Royals are trading RHP Dylan Coleman to the Astros, sources tell me and @JonathanMayo. Kansas City clears a spot on the 40-man roster ahead of the Rule 5 Draft.
— Anne Rogers (@anne__rogers) December 6, 2023
Coleman appeared in 96 games in the past three seasons for KC, including 68 games in 2022 and 23 games last season. He has a career 3.88 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. He’s fastball (95 mph), slider (81) and cutter (90) and walked 57 batters and struck out 99 in 92 2/3 innings.
— Brian McTaggart (@brianmctaggart) December 6, 2023
Coleman, 27, had a 2.78 ERA in 68 relief outings for the Royals in 2022. He had an 8.84 ERA in 23 appearances for Kansas City in 2023 and spent the balance of the season at Triple-A. He still has minor-league options, per Roster Resource. https://t.co/xOUJ9QfQA0

I've been told they've met with Hicks and gotten as far as discussing numbers.
