Buehler will be back. Year 2 of Miller. I would expect them to land one of Cease, Burns, or Glasnow. They have plenty of money to spend too.

Their lineup is going to be nasty with the top looking something like this.

-Muncy

I except them to be very good and challenge the Braves for best record in baseball.

I just don't get how the Dodgers have so much more money than we have. We've had more success and have spent less.

Oh I know. I don't expect them to suck at all. They will be very good.

I think Cease is very good, but honestly, unless an organization can unlock his inconsistency and gain ability to go deeper into games, I don't worry about him a ton. I do t want the Astros to entertain anything with Cease that is barely an over pay.

Glasgow is very good.

Burns would be the one I would worry about the most.

Still have to see how Miller is in year 2 - will he slump a little? Even if they add one of those 3, they still have the issues I mentioned. It will be a strong rotation, for sure, but they still have a lot of issues that don't make them super scary to me. Just my opinion obviously.

They have money committed to Betts & Freeman. Everyone else is cheap, in arbitration, or pre-arbitration. They're paying 3 guys more than 10 M. We are paying 9 guys more than 10 M (not counting Framber & Tucker who will be above that).

Dodgers have been getting things to make a run at Ohtani for 2 years.

Yes (Montero & Abreu), but we also pay JV 17 M, LMJ 17 M, & Javier 10 M. They don't have money committed to SP. We also pay Pressly 14 M. Their closer is still early in his career under team control.

They also have a well oiled machine for the minors. They develop very well. They draft well. They make strong international signing.

They just can't seem to win in the postseason.

I feel like Crane should let Dana spend $11.5M over whatever our limit would be. Basically, let him operate like the stupid Montero signing didn't happen.

That $17.5M to LMJ hurts, too. It's like the two seasons we paid JV a combined $66M to not pitch for us.

We expecting any more action for the Astros today?

When I hear the "Dana is all talk and no action" comments, this is what I keep coming back to.

He's got a real budget with a real boss who impacts who he can go after. His boss also hampered him last year by making deals Dana likely wouldn't have made.

I believe him when he says he's having conversations. I also just know in the back of my head the Astros can't overpay on money unless Crane is willing to give the green light.

unfortunately, bad contracts have consequences...for the Astros too

if the 'stros only had 1 bad one...the impact might be minimal.

but it's 3 with Abreu, Montero, and Lance --- about $48 MM on the books

He was not great last year and he's already 30 with 7 years left. I would think the Padres would basically give him away to get it off the books.
