I didn't know it was possible to love Mike Evans even more than I already loved him.

I agree with extending to lower their AAV but I think you're talking about too long.Farmer1906 said:
Was thinking about Bregman, Altuve and the luxury tax payroll.
I looked at potential contracts for Altuve & Bregman over the last few days.
We know Altuve is making $23,357,143 (luxury Tax amount) / $26 M (base) & Bregman $20,000,000 (luxury tax) / $28.5 M (base)
Let's assume both will accept one of my previous contract guesses 3/70 & 6/132.
If we include 2024 money as well, they jump to 4/96 & 7/160.5. Both would increase the AAV and hurt the luxury tax. I believe you can make it so that they do not go into effect until 2025 so it won't hurt tax #s.
BUT I believe you can also include it this year. Why not make these guys Astros for life and help yourself out a little? Keep the total # about the same (add ~5%) along with another 2-3 years.
Offer Altuve 6/100 & Bregman 10/170. Both would be free agents for their age-40 season. It would lower your AAV from a combined 43.3 M for 2024 to 33.6 M, not cost much more in total dollars, and keep these two as Astros for life ala Bagwell and Biggio. If (when in Altuve's case) they go into the HOF, they're Astro locks (probably already are).
We would go from 232 M to 222 M which increase the gap to the 1st and 2nd tax level to 15 and 35. Even with going aggressive after someone like Hicks and Pedrson, we should easily be able to stay under the 2nd tax level (257 M)
Any shorter and it doesn't make much of a difference.Lonestar_Ag09 said:I agree with extending to lower their AAV but I think you're talking about too long.Farmer1906 said:

Any shorter than 10 years for Bregman doesn't make a difference compared to a FA next year….? Huh

I know this is the Astros thread, but how about CJ Shroud. We found ourselves a franchise QB!
He's legit. He's better now than a lot of NFL veterans. Most of them cannot lead a drive to win a game with less than a minute left like he just did.stoneca said:

Was told last night there's about an "80% chance" Espada is going to be the guy. This has been my hunch as well based off everything else I've been told.
I think he will be great. For example, He was thrown into the fire in ALCS game 5 and managed us to a win trailing by 2 in the 9th.AggiEE said:texasaggie2015 said:

Might as well give him a chance. If he can work with the FO and isn't egotistical and completely run by gut feelings instead of facts, that's all we really need. Managing by committee is much better than managing by 1 guy's ego.
I'm not seeing anyone on the open market I like.

How about the backup RB getting a key field goal late in the game...crazy game.stoneca said:

Espada plus locking up Altuve/Breggy for life plus some other FAs, and I'd be quite happy this off-season.
One of the most entertaining games I've watched in a while. Would have been better if Mike had scored on that long pass.EastCoastAgNc said:How about the backup RB getting a key field goal late in the game...crazy game.stoneca said:

I mean this is it for the most part. I've completely missed 2 Aggie games this year. Every season I care less and lessBregxit said:Lonestar_Ag09 said:false.tjack16 said:
