you found the origin of my username. I still have mine from '98. The first one I had cracked at the cap for about 2 inches down the barrel. The replacement lasted, but it's dented and warped, now.Farmer1906 said:
That sounds right. The early 90s weren't as hot. The bats were more like clubs. They started to get more balanced (longer barrel). I found the pic of mine. It's a Redline which is supposed to be one of the hottest. Even after that era, the BESR ones were hot too. I think they talked about it in that video (watched it a while back).
Quote:
OF: Anthony Santander, Orioles
Santander is entering his fourth and final year of arbitration and likely to earn a nice raise. The Orioles have Cedric Mullins and Austin Hays returning, with Colton Cowser and Heston Kjerstad -- the team's No. 2 and 3 prospects, respectively -- ready to seize an opportunity in the Majors.
Buzz factor: Medium. Baltimore figures to invest in pitching this offseason, so unloading Santander's salary would help free up some payroll. Santander has averaged 30 home runs with 92 RBIs and a .785 OPS since the start of 2022, a power bat many contenders would be interested in obtaining.
OF: Alex Verdugo, Red Sox
The Red Sox have depth in the outfield, and Verdugo is headed for his final crack at arbitration. With Masataka Yoshida and Jarren Duran locked in and Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu ready to make an impact, Verdugo -- the centerpiece of the Mookie Betts trade -- could be expendable.
Buzz factor: Low. Verdugo's numbers won't overwhelm anybody, but his strikeout rate is strong and his outfield play remains above average. If Boston wants to free up an outfield spot -- and the payroll associated with it -- Verdugo could be dangled in deals this offseason.

I said it multiple times this season. I don't think we care. I really think we told our pitchers to focus on pitching and not worry about it. Couple that with really slow deliveries and a catcher who was getting older and slower and you get run on a lot.
Anyone know how they differentiate the pitcher from the catcher in this metric?Farmer1906 said:
Statcast has a new metric on holding runners. To no one's surprise we absolutely suck at it. Only Maton & Pressly we're positive.

Pop time already separates the catcher out, so I'm guessing it's something to do with varying the start of delivery and average time of delivery from the pitcher.
I know this post is about Devers but holy mother of god Stanton lmao https://t.co/4oVA9zFTwb pic.twitter.com/GKtj0Lf1xJ

As bad a season as maldy had the running was not on him. It was all on the pitchers. A bazooka couldn't have gotten many of those steals at 2nd
True. However, if Maldy was the coach on the field for the pitchers. That's on him, no?MosesHallRAB04 said:

I don't hate Maldy. I just don't think he was the best option for us to win behind the plate. It's not an emotional "you don't want him to start so you hate him" childish argumentBeat40 said:AgLA06 said:True. However, if Maldy was the coach on the field for the pitchers. No.
It's on the pitching staff and organizational philosophy.
We get it. You hate Maldy.

The justification for looking past his atrocious hitting, inability to frame pitches, high amount of past balls, and base runners on a merry go round was that he was handling the pitchers like a coach on the field / sports psychologist. He got lots of credit for it regardless of the result. Yet, none of the negatives of our pitching staff regressing throughout the year nor our inability to keep runners out of scoring position seem to fall to him.

I'm not asking you guys to stop talking about how bad Maldy was, but can you give me a finite date in the future when you're going to stop griping about him?
Like can we say, no bagging on Maldy after December 31, 2026? Is that enough time to get it out of your system?
