These fees are ridiculous. Example... ticket's $577 each or $759 each w/ fees. 30%+ in fees!

I bought tickets for game 3 vs Baltimore for me and my son and they were $145 each. After fees they were ~$205 each. Crazy.

Keep an eye on StubHub as well.

Upper deckers in the five hundreds now.

As a season ticket holder, I do a lot of reselling. Tomorrow morning is when individual sellers will start to panic. You can't roll this ticket into anything else, so if you don't sell, you lose everything.

If it were me - and I live dangerously - I'd go to the game without a ticket and scoop up late discounts around 6 PM. Hell, wait until after first pitch and you'll get seats dirt cheap.

It drives my wife crazy - "WhAt If It SeLlS oUt???" Well, then we'd go home. But it never does.
I cannot comprehend going to a World Series game and being willing to miss the first pitch.

This is just a fact across the board. Fees for tickets now are just stupid.

As much as I'd love to go to one of these games, it's just not in the cards. Will be enjoying in 4k on YoutubeTV.

I agree. Concerts and really anything else that requires mass selling of tickets is the same way.

I'm pretty sure we paid ~40% in fees to see monster trucks in Austin recently.

Which they are hitting the seller side too. I think SeatGeek is 10% deducted. So $520 to the seller and $239 to SG.

People get way too caught up in "fees" and "face value".

A $50 ticket with $50 in fees is the same thing as a $100 ticket with $0 in fees.

The artists/teams/secondarymarket/scalpers are all in bed with one another.

Figure out a price you are willing to pay and pay it - don't let whatever obfuscation or label they put on the same $ you are paying impact your decision.

I had to approve travel for an employee going to London.

JFK - LHR (Round Trip)

Base: $291.00
Taxes: $1,220.15
CC Fees: $0.00

I nearly choked. Taxes were 520% of what the Airline got.

I use SeatGeek a lot. Okay thank you was just checking if there were any spots around the stadium that you know are willing to deal as first pitch approaches.

Let's talk Rangers pitching in the Post-Season.

I know it is too early for 2024 projected rotations, but what would you like to see from the World Series going into the offseason:

14 Pitchers have seen action. Age is on 7/1/23 per COTS.

Starters - 8
Eovaldi (33.138, 1yr + 1 opt): 4-0, 4GS, 2.42 ERA, 26.0 IP, 21 H, 4 BB, 28 SO, 0.96 WHIP
Monty (FA): 3-0, 4GS, 5G, 2.16 ERA, 25.0 IP, 28 H, 4 BB, 17 SO, 1.28 WHIP
-
Heaney (32.026, 1P Opt yr): 0-0, 2GS, 3G, 6.75 ERA, 5.1 IP, 6 H, 2 BB, 1 SO, 1.50 WHIP
Scherzer (38, 1yr): 0-1, 2GS, 9.45 ERA, 6.2 IP, 9 H, 3BB, 6 SO, 1.80 WHIP
Bradford (26, 6yrs): 1-0, 0GS, 3G, 1.59 ERA, 5.2 IP, 4 H, 0BB, 4 SO, 0.71 WHIP
Dunning (28.193, 3yrs): 1-1, 0GS, 2G, 7.71 ERA, 4.2 IP, 5 H, 4BB, 5 SO, 1.93 WHIP
Jon Gray (31.238, 2yrs): 0-0, 0GS, 1G, 9.00 ERA, 1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 SO, 3.00 WHIP
M Perez (FA): 0-0, 2G, 2.70 ERA, 3.1 IP, 4H, 1 BB, 1 SO, 1.50 WHIP

Relievers - 6
Leclerc (1yr): 0-1, 10G, 4.35 ERA, 10.1 IP, 8 H, 6 BB, 10 SO, 1.35 WHIP
Sborz (29.196, 4yrs): 0-0, 8G, 1.04 ERA, 8.2 IP, 2 H, 4 BB, 7 SO, 0.69 WHIP
Burke (3yrs): 0-0, 1G, 54.0 ERA, 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 SO, 6.00 WHIP
Chapman, Stratton, and Smith are all FAs.

Resorted for 2024:
Scherzer (38, 1yr): 0-1, 2GS, 9.45 ERA, 6.2 IP, 9 H, 3BB, 6 SO, 1.80 WHIP
Heaney (32.026, 1P Opt yr): 0-0, 2GS, 3G, 6.75 ERA, 5.1 IP, 6 H, 2 BB, 1 SO, 1.50 WHIP
Eovaldi (33.138, 1yr + 1P Opt): 4-0, 4GS, 2.42 ERA, 26.0 IP, 21 H, 4 BB, 28 SO, 0.96 WHIP
Jon Gray (31.238, 2yrs): 0-0, 0GS, 1G, 9.00 ERA, 1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 SO, 3.00 WHIP
Dunning (28.193, 3yrs): 1-1, 0GS, 2G, 7.71 ERA, 4.2 IP, 5 H, 4BB, 5 SO, 1.93 WHIP
Bradford (26, 6yrs): 1-0, 0GS, 3G, 1.59 ERA, 5.2 IP, 4 H, 0BB, 4 SO, 0.71 WHIP

I don't think Eovaldi has anything left to prove.

I'd like to see Scherzer continue to build on what he has shown as he has gotten healthy. I don't know that his performance does anything but show his grit and desire to win.

For G4, I think much depends on where we are. I think Dunning deserves the GS, with Heaney's last performance being shaky. Maybe Dunning - Heaney - Gray

I'd like to see Bradford.

All-in-all, I think those 6 SPs are pretty solid going into Spring Training. Gray and Dunning would be nice to see multiple IP which could make them trade candidates.

Normally, I've been against a 6man rotation, but I could see us starting the 2024 season in a 6Man. That would allow us to slow-start some of the older guys. We'd easily shift to a 5Man when an injury happens and by mid-season, they would have lower IP count making them stronger down the finish.

I agree with the bolded in principle however the fact that you don't get the fees until you are well into the process does create a feeling of being scammed. I can tell you there have been a number of times I have backed out on buying tickets for something because the fees ended up pushing the total cost over what I was willing to spend and that creates some frustration.

DallasAg 94

That's a good listen.

He gets some things wrong and makes some misstatements. It is clear he is reading copy prepared for him... as I'd guess he and most do.

He may know slightly more about the Rangers than Smoltz did, but he clearly followed the NL games... he did play for both NLCS teams.

I think it will be:
G1: Eovaldi vs Gallen - announced already
G2: Monty vs
G3: Max vs

I don't know enough to know if Pfaadt (25) is your G2 guy on the road. Conventional wisdom says Kelly (35) is your guy.

If you think Pfaadt is only going 4-5 IP, having him in G2 and then an off day may play better for you with a BP game in G4. Maybe you go Kelly in G3 to preserve your BP arms. The other side of that is if you think Pfaadt is your best SP, do you want him going against Monty or Max?

Eovaldi and Monty are dialed in. If the Rangers go up 2-0 and Pfaadt is pitching G3, would you bump Max to G4 and go Dunning-Heaney against Pfaadt in G3, hoping to steal a G4 with Max against their BP and potentially going up 3-1.

I think it will be Pfaadt v Max. We are still not sure Max can give us more than 3-4 innings. So we will need bull pen pieces for his start no matter what. Then game 4 is a crap shoot as to what we get out of our starter there.

We have gotten to Pfaadt before this season, but it was his first start in the majors and he has surely matured since then.

Also key to understand that the tickets you see on Seatgeek (and other secondary market places) often times are just the teams themselves listing through an intermediary. So these fees you think you might be paying to some scalper or even to Seatgeek are often times just going into the teams pocket.

Went back to rewatch some of Game 6 and game 7.

Obviously, the final score doesn't show it, but game 6 was so close to being won by the Astros. Sborz striking out Alvarez on 3 pitches, and then LeClerc getting out of a bases loaded jam was incredible. Especially considering how defeated LeClerc must have felt after game 5.

That Sborz vs Alvarez at bat was the AB of the series. Absolutely beautiful work by Sborz. Got him to chase the curve outside, then brought the same pitch in just enough to backdoor the zone, then threw a perfect high and in fastball in the spot Smoltz had been highlighting as Alvarez's one "weak spot". Magnificent.

Yes game 6 was a nail biter until Adolis kicked the door down.

Funny thing in the break between the 8th and the 9th I ran to to bathroom and muttered to myself "God, I just want us to score 5 in the 9th so it's not so stressful." And we did. LOL

In the moment I was convinced Bochy lost us the game by putting in Leclerc against Tucker. Sborz had survived the worst part of the Houston lineup without giving up any runs and Tucker, while extremely talented, was one of the "easiest" outs in the Houston lineup at that point. Instead Leclerc comes in and walks Tucker to load the bases while still trying to find his groove. To think we finished that game 9-2 is hilarious.

Also, I haven't heard anyone really mention it, but Altuve's error in the top of the 9th was a big deal. If he makes that play who knows if we eventually get to that Stanek-Garcia matchup. Had we not scored that inning we were looking at Leclerc trying to get a 5-out save or Chapman coming into the 9th at some point. Amazing all the little things that add up in an individual game/series
Proposition Joe
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Games 1, 2, 5 and 6 were all games that could have gone either way with one play.

Whereas in Game 3 and 4 they took it to us. In Game 7 we took it to them.

That's baseball.

I brought it up a few times but so much of it little effort plays. Game 6 on Abreu's hit down the line off of Jung's glove. Alvarez made it all the way to 3rd which means with any kind of hustle Abreu is at 2nd base. But he didn't take second, he stayed at first.

Next play was a Brantley double-play ball to 2nd base to end the inning.

If Abreu goes to 2nd, that Brantley ground ball scores Alvarez to make it 3-2 instead of 3-1 -- and the Astros are still batting with a RISP (at either 2nd or 3rd). Completely changes the feel.

But then at the same time in G6, Garcia refuses to run out a dropped 3rd strike... He winds up being the hero.

Then in G7, Garcia watched a ball off the wall and winds up at 1st instead of 2nd. He eventually steals 2nd, but still got caught not hustling again... Winds up being the hero again.

Crazy series.

I'm way behind on the comment section, but this is a great article, Ranger homer tilt or not. But this part is just incredible:

"Early in the season, you could see this Rangers team being a serious threat to make the World Series. By the end of September, though? Come on. Even if the offense woke up and scored runs, the pitching staff was in shambles. This was a team commonly viewed as a speed bump for some other team's playoff run.

And why not? I mean, look at the roster of this club. Yes, there is the half-billion dollar middle infield that anchors the lineup. But after that?

Adolis Garcia, twice DFA'd, acquired by the Rangers from the St. Louis Cardinals for cash considerations.

Nathaniel Lowe, the guy shipped out by the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for three minor leaguers because the Rays believed they had better options to play first base.

Jonah Heim, former Player To Be Named Later
thrice traded, acquired by the Rangers from the Oakland A's, the A's parting with Heim, essentially, so they'd have to pay less of Elvis Andrus's salary.

Leody Taveras "former top prospect," as the national broadcast mentioned at least once every game, a guy who most Rangers fans had written off prior to this year and were ready to cut ties with.

Josh Jung, viewed as a reach at #9 overall in the 2019 MLB Draft because of questions about his power and glove.

Mitch Garver, the catcher who couldn't stay healthy, shuffled out of Minnesota for Isiah Kiner-Falefa.

Evan Carter, the former second round pick whose selection by the Rangers was mocked and laughed at in 2020, someone who spent most of the year at AA, who only got a shot in September because of Garcia's injury.

And that's without getting into the pitching staff, led by Jordan Montgomery, the pitcher traded by the New York Yankees in the middle of the 2022 season because he wasn't good enough to be in a playoff rotation."

I've really never seen any player be either the hero or the chump like Altuve was in this series.

Game 1 he goes 0 for 3 with a gigantic baserunning blunder.
Game 2 he goes 0 for 5.

Game 3 he goes 2 for 5 with a homerun.
Game 4 he goes 3 for 4 with a walk.
Game 5 he hits the epic come from behind 3R homerun.

Game 6 he has the error that helps lead to the Rangers busting it open.
