I have Rangers win World Series at +900 back in august. Too bad I only put 100 on it.

"Buying players" is the most nonsensical argument. It is the job of the Rangers office to invest in the team and increase the value of the franchise. They literally just invested in the team like you do any asset.
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

To quote the Astros, "everyone does it, don't be mad that we did it better!" Lol except buying players is legal and cheating is…. Not.

I think the tv ratings won't be as bad as most expect. Series could truly go either way and both are hot. Neither team is hated nationally so most people will be able to watch stress free and just enjoy the game for what it is. I got rangers in 7.

Looks like the revenge tour is going to continue against the team that laid down for Houston with our division on the line. Give no quarter.

Shouldn't we be thanking them????

If we win the division, we would have had home field over Houston and probably wouldn't be here right now.

I am absolutely loving this team. That stretch was brutal to go through, but, every team goes through that crap. I think we're lucky it happened when it did, rather than happening these last 19 games. I like the fight. I don't like the bullpen LOL but it is what it is. Hopefully, Scherzer is OK and we get Jung and Garcia back and get this thing rolling again into October.

The Garcia injury may actually be a blessing in disguise. He was struggling for awhile and it's given us new blood and energy with Carter.

Just scrolling back through September. LSB mentioned this in an article this morning that the Garcia injury was the best thing that happened for the Rangers and it essentially saved the season. Couldn't agree more. Can't wait to see Langford next season.

The following wild card teams have won the World Series: the Florida Marlins, in 1997 and 2003; the Anaheim Angels, in 2002; the Boston Red Sox, in 2004; the St. Louis Cardinals, in 2011 (****); the San Francisco Giants, in 2014; and the Washington Nationals, in 2019.

Bochy was the manager in SF when they won in 2014 and Scherzer was a key part of the 2019 Nats.

One way or another, there will be a new team added to this list this year.

Let's take a look at the DBack's SP:
Gallen: 27, RH
https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/zac-gallen-668678

Kelly: 34, RH
https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/merrill-kelly-518876

Pfaadt: 24, RH. 1st season. Improved as season went along, 3rd time through the order was a killer for him. That's probably why his Post-Season #s look good. He didn't see many a 3rd time.
https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/brandon-pfaadt-694297?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb

Against Philly:
G1: Gallen - 5.0 IP, 8H, 5 ER, 3 HR, 4K, 88 PC
G2: Kelly - 5.2 IP, 3H, 4 ER, 3 HR, 6K, 89 PC
G3: Pfaadt - 5.2 IP, 2H, 0 ER, 0 HR, 9K, 70 PC

Post-season:
Gallen: 4 GS, 5.24 ERA, 22.1 IP, 13 SO, 1.48 WHIP
Kelly: 3 GS, 2.65 ERA, 17.0 IP, 19 SO, 1.00 WHIP
PFaadt: 4 GS, 2.70 ERA, 16.2 IP, 22 SO, 1.08 WHIP

Regular season:
Gallen: 34 GS, 3.47 ERA, 210.0 IP, 220 SO, 1.12 WHIP, 47 BB
Kelly: 30 GS, 3.29 ERA, 177.2 IP, 187 SO, 1.19 WHIP, 69 BB
Pfaadt: 18 GS, 5.72 ERA, 96.0 IP, 94 SO, 1.41 WHIP, 26 BB

I think the Rangers need to be patient early and string together some hits. Gallen has to be gassed, I suspect. Pfaadt pitched G7 and seemed to handle the moment well. He is a rookie, so we'll see how he looks.

If you watched the on-field post-game reactions for the DBacks, it was hard to tell if you thought they'd won or lost. They looked exhausted and somber. Flying between PHX and Philly was a bigger travel than DFW to HOU. The emotional toll for the Rangers may be an issue, after a very charged series.

I think if we score early we could force Arizona out of the small-ball they play. The absolute key will be for our hitters to stay patient and try not to hit a HR every swing.

I think Max will continue to improve, with Eovaldi and Montgomery continuing to perform well.

I think the Rangers have an advantage in SP in depth, experience, and performance. Hopefully they go 6.0+ and hand the ball to Sborz in the 7th with a 3-4 run lead.

Good to know that if Ohtani came out and said "I want to play for the Astros", their fan base would reject him outright because that would be buying a player instead of raising a homegrown talent.

They actually probably would reject him, though. Their owner is a racist, their fans lauded Guerriel mocking Yu Darvish in a racist way (still do)…. There is a culture around them that tells me that they wouldn't want Ohtani simply because he's Japanese, nothing to do with cost.

The D-Backs 3 best starters are all right handers, which is good for starting Evan Carter. But it does mean that they can bring in a lefty late in the game to face Seager and Carter, though I believe all their best relief guys are right handed.

The lefty they were asking to face Bryce Harper was Saalfrank, who is a rookie late season call up who walked a lot of batters this past series.

Pfaadt had a couple good games against the Phillies but he was pretty bad for most of the regular season.

Rangers touched him for 7 runs with 4 HRs in Pfaadt's first career start in May, but lost the game because we were shutout the rest of the game.

Edit: It should also say something that the Rangers were good against Pfaadt in his first start, considering it seemed like most times we faced a bullpen day or a rookie starter we were dominated this season.

I think Arizona pitching is slightly better than Baltimore but offensively they're average. Houston couldn't hit with guys in scoring position. Arizona has cashed in there. We have to make then leave guys on base when they get there.

Just wait, if they want to keep their "window" open, they will be signing some free agents as well. They can likely compete next year with their current makeup, maybe a free agent here or there. But after that, they will have to invest to stay relevant. Their minor league system isn't good. Someone posted yesterday they are one of the bottom teams in the system rankings.

They've obviously done really well developing players through their system to get them to where they are, but that also took years of tanking. Will be interesting to see how their management decides to handle things over the next few years. I think Bregman has one more year until free agency, Altuve has 1 or 2 years on his contract, so they are going to have to decide if they are going to pony up or possibly lose some of their key players. I think Yordon still has several years left on his deal.

We'll have plenty of time to discuss their 2024 roster in the off-season.

As tempting as it is to dig into their demise... let's focus on Arizona.

Good point. I was just rambling after replying to the post. I was more looking to 2025 than 2024, I think they will be fine in 2024, it's beyond that where it gets more interesting.

In March I took Rangers to win the West at +800. Luckily, I was able to hedge with HOU (+900) & SEA (+850) to win the division in the final week of the season.

The final week of the season I also took the following:
- Rangers to win AL (+750)
- Phillies to win WS (+1400)
- Dbacks to win NL (+1600)

I can't stand "fans" that think they want to win more than the athletes that invested their lives to do what they do. Those dudes came up 5 wins short of the ultimate goal and they dog cuss them. Trea Turner is an amazing ball player. We all suck at our jobs sometime so get over yourselves. I for one am glad they lost and hope for nothing good to happen for them.

Was I pissed walking out after game 5 Friday night? you are darn right! Did I dream about Altuve's homer over and over? Yup. Would I ever boo or talk crap to Leclerq or any other player? No way in Hell! (well maybe Will Smith. Just kidding.)
