Another loss. No reason to get pissed off. We are what we are this season. Look to next season. Fortunately our weaknesses are so glaring they should be easy to fix.

It is what it is guys. Monty is gutless for allowing bochy to take him out of the game at 95 pitches and Smith is worthless. Offense wont win many games scoring 2 runs against a minor league pitcher. We knew all this before the game started.

The Texas Rangers are not going to win many games when they score 1 or 2 runs. But they don't have to lose ALL of them. EVERY time. EVEN when they are ahead in the 8th or 9th inning. Using the SAME strategy. EVERY GAME.

Why Boch continues to run Smith out there in these high leverage situations is just utterly mind-boggling. I mean literally go to ANYONE but him!!!!

My wife who doesn't even follow it that closely saw Smith trotting in and said, WTF isn't that the same guy that blew the game in Cleveland, why is he coming in again.

Apparently only Bochy can't see it.

Been about the most roller coaster, gut wrenching season I can remember and I've been following since the 70's.

There's still time but even if we make it to October baseball, it'll probably be a quick, non-memorable first round exit.

The weaknesses (bullpen) were glaring this off-season, and we did nothing.

There absolutely is reason to be pissed off. We're squandering career years out of a bunch of offensive guys. With where we were in late July, the bare minimum should've been to get these guys some playoff experience. Even that is looking 50/50 at best.

This franchise has been wasting careers for 50 years.

CY wasn't willing to gut our farm system for this season. If we would ever develop young pitchers from our farm system we could use them in the bullpen and not have to sell Acuna for Scherzer's tricep.

Are we allowed to hang over the bullpen and rag on the staff all night or do you get kicked out? Safe for work, but cruel?

We are 10-20 in the last 30 games…just as we get to games that matter.

So amazingly sad. I'm glad we will at least finish .500, but I really think 85 wins might be the most we finish with unless we score a heckuva lot more than we have been.

He's trying to take accountability, but he needs to quit. Regroup in the off-season and try to salvage his career. Ask for the injured list. It's selfish of him to take up a roster spot just so he can get paid.

Options are starting to dwindle. It could go from several options to just…… BEAT THE MARINERS OR ELSE. soon.

4 games left against non playoff teams, but those teams have beat us 0-4 so far.

I understand that baseball is an imperfect and unpredictable sport, but you cannot be a playoff team let alone contender with how unbelievably up and down the Rangers are. You can't win six in a row and then proceed to get swept and lose your next six. Cannot happen. You have to have SOME level of consistency one way or the other.

"You keep putting them out there" is pretty much what you get with Bochy. He will win or lose based on his roster, he's well below average in decision making.

The number of games Montgomery could have gone one more inning -- removing one more inning of the **** bullpen -- in games that ended up being blown late is disgusting.

But Bochy gonna keep riding that horse and putting them out there.

All that being said, this offense scoring 2 runs is pretty ridiculous.

But... win the next 2 and you walk into the final 10 games of the season controlling your playoff destiny with a division title actually still in play. This team certainly doesn't feel deserving of that, but deserving or not it's right there for the taking with a full strength lineup.

Not just Montgomery. He has pulled pitchers after 80 pitches and 6 great innings at least 10-15 times this year only for the bullpen to make it interesting or blow it.

It's one thing if you are stretching out a pitcher or giving them rest after a long outing last game.... it's another to act like it's a long season to not let them finish what they started. That part I don't like. That has been the case in nearly all the early pulls.

Trying to keep this in perspective that this has been a really good season. Ideally it could have been even better. Nearly every player is running on fumes at this point and there's nothing we can do to fix it. They players we have simply aren't good enough to win games in August and September. I don't think we need a roster overhaul.

This isn't on Bochy. It's a collective failure of the entire team and franchise. But we are close and I hope we can bring up young pitchers next season to get us over the hump. Not everybody needs to be a starter. A couple of these starters need to buy into a bullpen role if we want to make a playoff run next year.

We need to find out why pitchers leave the organization and improve their performance at their next team. We've had some position players come here and do that, but never a pitcher. The pitchers we bring in usually get hurt or suck.

Yup. The number of times our starter has finished his night with not just <90 pitches but also a strikeout to turn it over to this coin-flip at best bullpen just makes zero sense. But he's set in his ways. When it finally works out the local media will praise it as "sticking with his guys until they figure it out". No matter the 20 games it cost us prior.

On Bochy? No. Could his decisions of had us another 3-4 games up in the standings if he actually made the right moves? Sure.

Ditto if CY had fortified the bullpen.

As far as pitching goes... Yeah, the last stud pitcher we actually developed and kept in-house was CJ Wilson and even that required him pushing management to give him a shot as a starter. We simply don't have a good eye for talent.

Honestly I'm so sick of posting the same crap on this thread. I've got to find a way to mentally and emotionally release this team for the rest of the season. I keep talking myself into thinking they will figure it out.

Almost every team says the same thing.

Ragans went 6.0 IP/5ER in his last GS. Still has a good ERA, but let's see what happens next year.

Clase has been great for Cleveland, but his ERA this season is 3.01 (age 25). Tons of Saves for sure. However, he has served an 80G suspension for PEDs.
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/29124359/indians-reliever-emmanuel-clase-suspended-80-games-ped

Verlander was at 3.15 with the NYM and is throwing 3.93 with Houston.

We brought in guys like Lynn and Lytle and Gibson and saw them do well.

It's just baseball.

I still find it amazing that a team can be 72-48 in August, two games out of first place in the ENTIRE AL, to hoping we can get to 85 wins. That's just unbelievable. 27 saves and 31 blown saves this season, but 3 of the last 16 as the Pennant Race heats up.

Bochy has no choice when he looks down there and has to call in a AAA pitcher for the hardest outs to get. I don't blame him, but I do think that guys like Josh Sborz and Will Smith are done and don't need to be used in any high leverage situations. Chapman can maybe get used every 3 days, max. LeClerc looks scared to death every time he pitches, too, but you gotta use someone. Just amazing to be at this spot in a season and see an entire staff of relief pitchers that you try and use only to see ALL of them fail miserably.

It will be interesting to see how CY learns from all of this. I still believe in him. Just hoping he can find ways to make this bullpen become something besides a gas station.

I've never like the Rangers strategy regarding putting a bullpen together. Under JD it always felt like he tried to cobble something together, and honestly my only complaint about CY so far is that he seems to have continued that approach.

Modern bullpens have big arms. High 90s fastballs, etc. The Rangers don't really have that, or at least they don't have anyone who can control their stuff. Marc Church and Alex Speas could be those guys in the future, but they aren't ready yet apparently. Sborz is a bum, and has always been a bum. I was critical of him being on the team earlier this season even when he was pitching well, he is what he is. Smith, Chapman, Kennedy, etc. are all retreads. Burke is a middle reliever not a closer - and that's basically everybody they have in the pen.

It's been a great run this season and brought fun back to Rangers baseball, but I think we can just about stick a fork in this season. Even if we fool around and make the playoffs, this team will struggle to advance because we'll get ahead early and blow the lead late.

At this point it is what it is... I don't expect the playoffs anymore. Had they not gotten off to such a hot start and yet were sitting where they are, I'd be thrilled, but such a let down

What? Is this bad?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah, we've certainly tried the non-traditional approach this year. Chapman is close but can't spot anything on the edges of the zone, probably because he takes his eye off the glove and tries to find it again mid-pitch. The 3-batter minimum has rendered guys like Will Smith as useless. Lefty relievers (crafty, lol) used to be almost exclusively specialists vs. LH batters.

Outside of Hader, it takes power RHP to get it done in the 7th-9th innings. Guys that can spot it on the inside edge of the strike zone without hitting the batter. Guys that can get the strike at the knees, followed by the high fastball that is close enough to get the batter to swing. Then follow it up with a slider that starts at the knees with late break for the K.

We have Smith and Chapman, neither fit the mold, then Sborz (no), LeClerq (sort of), Burke/Bradford (god no), Stratton (sort of). For some reason we gave up on Grant Anderson.
