Last couple month he is capped in the 80sPC.

Only thing I can assume is Bochy is trying to get a number of guys some confidence going against this Mets lineup.

Like tonight's game, he had a couple guys on base and appeared to be headed towards trouble. Now is not the time to see if he can work through trouble, IMO.

I'm trying hard to understand Bochy's decision to pull starters who are pitching well when they have 70-80 pitches and knowing our bullpen is statistically one of the worst in baseball. This has been happening all year.

The only thing I can think is he's trying to control the psyche of our starters and keep their confidence high.

I don't think that is the case. I get it... the Rangers have money on the line, but I don't see Bochy as one that would play that game. CYoung doesn't seem like that type.

The Rangers have more to lose breaking trust with SP with our track record on Ps. I really think they believe Heaney gives them the best chance to win... limited to about 80PC. I think if Playoffs are included, he'll more than reach what he needs.

Specifically with Heaney... We talked about this in July, IIRC. I couldn't cherry-pick/slice stats to find anything this season... 3rd time through the order... PC... that gave me a clue to substantiate limiting his PC. It has been limited and has been consistent and IMO, intentional. Rangers must know something. They may see something like a drop in velocity, that gives them a hint that Heaney is about to hit trouble.

I'll take an 80PC outing with 0ERs even if we have a crappy bullpen, rather than have the SP meltdown. In the Playoffs... I expect 70 PC for a Heaney GS and we could get 4-5 scoreless innings. He has been that good, IMO.

It was also his third time through the lineup, two on, one out. And two RH batters up next, including Alonzo. I didn't have an issue with bringing in a fresh RH reliever (Stratten) to face those righty's. It worked, so that makes Bochy a genius again, right ?

Adolis is so lost. How long does Bochy keep him at clean up? Garver needs to be there if you ask me. Move Adolis to 6.

All Bochy can do is put players in position to perform. When they do, he is great and everyone loves him. When it doesn't work... well...


CYoung had a great response to that... you can't just say it was the wrong decision because you can't have anyway of knowing a different decision would have changed the outcome.

I think it was after the WSmith game in SF. CY was like, maybe you call a different pitch. Maybe you locate it differently. Maybe you bring in a different pitcher. People like to project how the outcome would have been different, but you really have no way of knowing the outcome wasn't going to be the same.
