How many years does he have on his contract? Starting to get old for a catcher I would think, and the back end of those contracts can be rough.

If he was a rental I would say sure, but pretty sure he has one or more years left at a pretty high price.

Would not be opposed to Perez.

IMO if Evoladi could mess back, which sounds like will be next weekend, the Rangers have improved their pitching. Still a little over an hour left and we need a bat. I think Heim is done for the year.

Tough call. If I remember correctly, he's under contract through '26, and is 33. Not a great message to send to Heim IMO, but definitely a huge upgrade from Garver.

He is signed through '25 but you're right on Heim. Not sure what his contract looks like though. If it's friendly I think it's worth it if it's back loaded then not so much.

That's what many of these Houston fans grew up with. They will never get over it until Texans win a few Super Bowls. Which could be never.

And if we're being honest, the Verlander deal was great for Houston. It was a decent deal even without the $$$ kicked in, with it, it was a great deal. They got a big "hometown/i-know-this-club discount". At this point it's the biggest get of the trade season.

Sucks for us, but you still gotta win the games and we've reinforced our roster from the flailing one it was. We're still very capable and have the pieces to win this division, just going to need to play some good ball.

I'm fine making a run at Cease, but not interested in dealing any real key pieces for him. He's far from a sure thing and right now he slots as a #3 type arm. A guy you're really happy to have at #3, but still not a guy worth unloading for.

Having lived in several different metro areas, it's just a really weak and frustrated sports town. The Dallas Cowboys' success (and attention) created a permanent wound on the city's fanbase. The Rockets had a brief summit in the 1990's and had some good teams recently, but nobody really believed it could be sustained. The teams don't create a lasting relationship with the fanbase, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Texans eventually left Houston.

The fanbase only supports teams that win at a considerable rate, which is why the Astros' run has generated so much pride. These Astros teams have taken on MLB's best and won. They relish villain status and the players don't crater like all the other Oilers, Rockets, Texans, and Astros teams used to.

Let this pathetic town have their 1 team. We'll have to listen to it until we punch back with our own title.

Verlander was a good get for them, as it pertains to their needs for 2023.

It was a desperate move on their part and I'm happy they made it.

I don't think it is enough for them in 2023 and it will hobble them for the next couple years.
