I was going to say the same thing, and at least you know you're going to get a guy who's walk more than strikeout. We could use that right now. I could also make the argument that we should Wendzel, Hernandez or even Blaine Crim. Although Wendzel does strikeout more, it's not so bad as to where he shouldn't get a chance. Hernandez does though, unfortunately.

We can use a LF with a bat. I'm ready to see Carter.
I know I said it a few days ago, but I'm ready to see Foscue get a shot at DH by September. Definitely him over Huff.
I briefly forgot about Foscue. Front office should be busy trying to package him and some "lotto" prospects for a reliever.

Hopefully not anymore costly than that.

Yankees are throwing in the towel.

BoSox teased Verdugo. Was that a signal they are out?

Seattle has dismantled and Cleveland looks like they will just let things play out.

Looks like we're down to:
Baltimore
Texas
Minnesota
Tampa
Houston
Toronto

That seeds:
Baltimore v (Tampa/Houston winner)
Texas v (Minnesota/Toronto winner)

Tomorrow will be fun.

Toronto all star Bo Bichette went down with an apparent knee injury tonight. Not sure how serious it is.

Worth noting for several reasons, it could affect the blue jays deadline plans, we might have to fight the jays for a wildcard / wildcard positioning if things in the division go south, and we still play a big 4 game series in Toronto later this season.

I'm going to continue to only pay attention to the division standings unless we really start dropping in the west. Hopefully that doesn't happen. I think with our schedule getting easier we should be able to at least tread water until reinforcements arrive.

Hearing that Eovaldi is only on the IL due to his sore forearm. Nothing more than that and he will be good to go.

Don't recall seeing this tidbit here.

105.3 was talking this morning and was saying Bob Nightengale was reporting that Mets will start shopping Pete Alonso as well. They played audio of him saying that, but haven't seen anything else about it.

Weird. I saw something else saying they are willing to deal all controllable players through 2024 except Alonso

Never know what to believe on the internet

If the Mets sell Scherzer and Verlander, both under control for 2024, it would seem odd that they keep Alonso who is in his final Arb in 2024.

But it is the Mets we are talking about.

Plus in trade season lol

If I were to guess, looks like he likely strained his MCL... 3-4 weeks.

It could open the door for the Angels, since Boston and NY appear to have thrown in the towel.

The AL looks literally wide open.

There could be a situation where a throw-in or last minute piece at the deadline makes the difference for the AL pennant.
Mr Gigem

Which is why it makes sense for the Rangers to go for it. You have the means to acquire the pieces that will help you win a WS, even without hampering your future. We should absolutely be in the conversation for the remaining top trade targets

Any expectation that some teams already have deals worked out and waiting to announce closer to the deadline, to keep from showing their hand?!

DMN posted a story saying something to the effect that the Rangers were the mystery team still looking into Verlander. Couldn't read the whole thing because it was behind a pay wall.

I think that was posed as a question to which his answer was you can't say it's impossible but he thinks they're done with the rotation. He being Evan Grant.

I think we make another move before the deadline. Not sure what it will be but we have prospects galore and I think we can pry a reliever out of someone's hands (Im wonderimg about Daniel Bard as the Rockies are making moves the past few days) Not sure we need much else. A bat would be great but I'm not seeing where we would go.

Evan thinks another reliever is more likely. Adding JV takes the payroll to $270mm next year which puts them above the tax threshold, and it's two 40+ guys playing key parts of your rotation.

Evan also wrote this morning that he thinks another catcher is likely. Mentioned Austin Hedges from PITT or Yasmani Grandal from CWS.

Yes, he thought a reliever followed by a bat -which would logically be a C - were more likely than a SP

If a team sends cash with a player, the player's full salary still counts on our payroll for luxury tax purposes, right?

Like if we traded for Grandal, there's no way for his full prorated salary to not count against our payroll?

I missed that the Braves already flipped Hearn to the Royals for an actual major league player.

Nicky Lopez.

Looking at his success, I'd say he is the MLB position player equivalent of Taylor Hearn. Neither are actual MLB players, but fill a role.

That would be my take. Apparently it was expected Toronto would have MRI info back by 11Central... so, I'm sure they were burning up the lines in anticipation of what they thought was the likely scenario.

That was one of the trades I thought might not be disclosed. Getting DeJong signals Bichette likely gone long enough the Jays need a fill-in to stay in the WC hunt.

If I'm California Anaheim LAAA and I'm still trying to show I'm in the hunt, I might make a bigger move knowing Toronto has blood in the water.
fc2112
How long do you want to ignore this user?
LAAA staying in, and San Diego, is really good for us. Our little buddies down south are getting squeezed out since their farm system is caca.
DallasAg 94
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agreed.

Seems like every team with a FA after the season is suddenly pushing players. Market seems like there are WAY too many Sellers/options. Reminds me of chicklets at the Mexican border.

I think that drives the price down probably too low for some teams to want to move players.
