I've said Tampa's rotation is a mess. They got some "good news" today. Let's look at Tampa's pitching at the deadline and see if they will remain relevant the rest of the way.

They are 7-16 in July.

Tampa's Starting pitching.
McClanahan: 20GS, 3.00 ERA <- missed some starts before the ASB due to back issues.
Eflin: 20GS, 3.64 <- See below.
Glasnow: 11 GS, 3.36 <- Had oblique strain at start of season. 2.30 ERA in July.
Bradley (22): 16 GS, 5.67 <- 5GS, 7.89 ERA in July. (Perez is 8.50 in 4GS)

Others:
Beeks: 7GS, 6.27
3 RPs with 4 GS.
3 RPs with 3 GS

Rasmussen: 8GS, 2.62. Done.
Springs: 3GS, 0.56. Done.

Zach Eflin had to have an MRI on his left knee. He was cleared to pitch, but knee problems have been a chronic issue for him.

At the deadline, the Rays have 4 SPs with one that is a rookie and imploding... and one that could blow out his knee on any give GS.

I think the Rangers tanking during the Padres series was a brilliant move. Letting them sweep meant that they would take Snell and Hader off the trading blocks, and while simultaneously trading for Scherzer and Montgomery, the Rangers were able to fix the rotation, while not having to pay too much.

They also kept other teams from fixing their rotation.

Bochy and Chris Young are brilliant.

Grandal is probably the worst at throwing guys out in baseball so I would probably not want to eat $9M to have him, but I do think a Garver injury is inevitable and would really like to avoid being left with Huff and Plawecki behind the plate. Something to keep an eye on

Looks like several teams shopping players that they are likely to drop after the deadline, or players they don't really see being central parts to their future.

BTW... if I'm the Rangers, I'd go find the best FA position players that can help us and see if we can buy them for twice the pro-rated minimum.

The market really has gotten crazy.. glad to see so many teams switch from selling to buying. Y'all were joking about the sweep, but that seriously changed the market too.

What's funny is some of these trades have helped us on the field.

The white Sox trading Lynn and giolito meant we don't have to face them this week and we won't have to face Civale in Cleveland when we play them. We've already played the rays so if we see Civale it will only be in the playoffs.

I was under the impression that the Astros were being the most active on the phones and were being very aggressive. I mean, that's what a stranger on the internet. Goes to show you some people really don't know ***** But hey, good on them for building up some internet clout.

Like my wife, Mr. Gigem uses indefinite pronouns and can confuse people.

ETA, apparently one of the Astros' posters acts like he is an insider and posts non-sense covering both sides of things so that he can claim victory.

Mr. Gigem is good people and while sometimes he throws us a bone, we know it is "as is" information and he doesn't do it to beat his chest to be validated, but to help us get information early.

Very jealous of the deal the D-Backs just made. Acquired Paul Sewald for (unless I'm mistaken): their #20ish and #25ish prospects + a big league utility guy.

I feel like we could've topped that with something like Ornelas + Bubba Thompson + third filler guy. Hope we have something else set up for a high leverage reliever.

Feels like today has been underwhelming on the trade front. I guess the market is either blocked by waiting to see what will happen with Verlander or teams are just waiting for tomorrow to hope buyers / sellers get anxious and kick in more / accept less.

I think teams are just trying to decide what to do.

This year is really up for grabs. Who is the team to beat? Well, Atlanta seems to be the team for now.

But as winnable as this season seems to be, teams have too many holes to feel comfortable one or two trades will make the difference.

We just traded for 2 SP and a RP... and the idea that the Rangers are net-zero is curious... but not necessarily unfounded.

Seattle dismantling 4.5 back in the wild card and three games over .500.

San Diego not selling 5.0 games back and two games under.

I find that interesting, but with San Diego's team all they need is to get hot. That is a team I would not want to face in the playoffs if I'm in the NL.
