Fitting way to end that game. Another missile for an out.

If Garcia had been playing there, Tucker's ball would have been caught.

Another 1 run loss. Sooner or later this **** has got to turn around. Still have yet to see an angle where Semien is definitively out.

You won't see one because he was safe

162. This was a tough one, but it's one you can live with. Hit and pitch like this every night and we'll be okay. 3 straight one run games to Houston. Probably should have won 2 of them and be up by 5 games. The Rangers need to worry about the Rangers, and they'll be okay.

Agreed, when you're losing games this close and knowing what this lineup is capable of, we're still in good shape.

Did anyone else think that Maldonado was blocking part of the lane before he got the ball?

Silver linings:

Hit the ball hard all night
Young bullpen arms pitched well and saved our bullpen
We've hit Pressly hard 2 nights in a row
We've beat Framber with Heaney in their matchup earlier this season. Do it again and all is good again.

I thought that at first glance, but the outside half of the plate was open. Semi should've ran and slide closer to the plate and on the outside half. Especially trying to score from first.
gigem1223
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If Semien just runs through the plate he doesn't even get tagged
MrCoachEricTaylor
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah I'll even give you that. It was honestly a hell of a throw from Peña or Bregman gunning it in from shallow left to put it exactly where Maldonado didn't have to swipe to make the tag.

My goodness, this season has been the polar opposite of 2015, when the Astros couldn't buy a win against us, losing every way possible. Now, in 2023, it's the Rangers that can't beat the Astros.

Still just need 1 to feel good about this stretch of games. If Heaney shoves tonight and the bats come alive and we're still in decent shape.

In deadline news: Rays & White Sox are in progressed talks for Lance Lynn and he's willing to waive his no trade

One of the SP's I've seen linked to Rangers

"Texas should actually be favored in this matchup because Heaney is 4-0 with a 3.4 ERA away from home on Wednesdays and since he made the shift from starting his windup on the left side of the rubber to the right side of the rubber he is now an elite pitcher."

At this point would make sense for Texas. Familiar with each other, change of scenery and a guy you can slot in every 5th day, hope he re-finds his stuff, and not really feel any worse about what you're getting compared to the crapshoot that is our current #5.

Just wouldn't give up much of anything.

Need to win this one today. Puts us at 2 games ahead which is where we were at the All-Star break after going through CLE, TB, LAD, and HOU.

Houston on the other hand had LAA, COL, OAK, & TEX. If we can win today then we've kept our lead the exact same while Houston has TB, CLE, NYY, & BAL coming up compared to our schedule of SD, CHW, MIA, & OAK.

We need to do what Houston couldn't since the allstar break and take advantage of these upcoming two weeks.

Either way, Monday's loss is what stings the most. Had that in the palm of our hands and let it slip away.

Anyone interested in pursuing JV?

From BR
"Proposed Trade: Rangers get RHP Justin Verlander, RHP David Robertson and $23 Million, Mets get RHP Brock Porter and 2B Justin Foscue

For the Mets, adding Robertson alongside the obligatory cash would hypothetically give them leverage to demand a strong package from the Rangers. And this, indeed, would be a strong package.

Porter and Foscue rank as the No. 4 and No. 6 prospects in the ninth-best system in MLB. Both are having strong seasons in the minors, with Porter posting a 2.55 ERA at Single-A and Foscue putting up an .859 OPS at Triple-A."

I think Lynn would be a waste of a roster spot for the Rangers. You're replacing what you know for what you knew hoping a change of scenery creates value. That is almost 180degrees from your normal position.

I do think that the Rays interested in Lynn supports my drum beat that there isn't a rotation out there that is much, if any, better than the Rangers. Warts and all.

Rays need multiple arms to finish the season and are on a skid that could see them not making the playoffs.

And Heaney is 1-0 with a 0 era in 10 IP vs Houston this season. Framber has also been pretty average lately, giving up 11 ER in 17 IP in July. Hopefully the bats can touch him up.

Make it Leiter and Foscue and they have a deal--give us only $20 million instead.

Certainly Robertson

JV is owed $43M next year. At $23M gifted... is he worth $20M next year with an option that vests for 2025 if he reaches 140 IP?! Yikes.

Having said that... I'm sure the NYMets have misapplied the use of IP where for some reason they found it pertinent to include in his contract. Probably a bunch of morons.

The difference is sample size.

You see Martin Perez have a good year or a few good starts and assume he's basically a #2, despite his career #'s showing he's basically a 4.5 ERA pitcher.

Lance Lynn has not been good this year. Prior to this year he had a 3.5 career ERA.

At 36 he may simply not have anything left in the tank, but IMO he's got as much chance of being productive in the 5 spot as Perez does. For all you write about IP being of the utmost importance, why not give some of these guys who "are totally TORP guys but just have hit a rough few months" a few breaks?

If it happens.

Please tell me you aren't trying to relate IP in a single season being important to "keep low" for a team, with a team structuring a contract around IP so as to make sure they don't get too little IP out of a player?

Your mis-application of data and statistics is downright terrifying. It's like a reverse-Moneyball, I think you could take $500M and build a team that wins 15 games.

agree. No dice on including Porter. IMO, Foscue might as well pack his bags; unless we want to make him a DH he is blocked position-wise, so pretty good odds he gets moved somewhere in the coming days.
