He's definitely not going to be some gold glover, but he looks like the best power hitting prospects in the organization right now and he's on FIRE. Fangraphs grades his future power between 60-65, which is REAL. I also believe the crop of guys currently at Down East and Hickory are better than what's at Friso and Round Rock.

Since I live in Arlington, I enjoy the Rangers being called "Arlington". It's our tax dollars that built Jerryworld and Globe Life Mall anyway.

Since the Marlins and the Angels changed their names, I guess that makes the Rangers the only team in a state with multiple franchises to be named after the state rather than the city. For the record, though, I would be cool with Fort Worth Rangers.
Well, there's the Yankees

And the Mets haha

If you think the Mets and the Yankees are named after the state, you might be from Buffalo.

Wait, shouldn't that be an online of Arlington rather than Texas? Are we allowed to use that . I am sure a certain fan base will take issue with that logo.

Reminds me of how idiotic our marketing was for not pushing the block ATM over the outline of Texas for several years. We should push it even harder now to keep sip from getting any ideas. I suppose it's owned by Adidas, but it should be exclusively part of our brand.

In the past, I've been pretty vocal about not liking indoor baseball and the new stadium in particular. I've been to GLF 3 times now and it's growing on me. It'll never be as pretty as The Ballpark, and it's still baseball indoors on a synthetic surface, but it is a nice facility with lots of great sight lines. Even in a crowd of 35k people, I've been able to get concessions quickly, and have experienced short lines in the restrooms. I'll admit that it doesn't hurt that the team is playing well. When it's 106* outside (afternoon or evening start time doesn't matter), it would be pretty miserable at the old place but very comfortable inside the new one. I guess the older I get, the less of a purist (and more of a pragmatist) I become.

Looking forward to the All Star Game here next year.

I haven't been to a Rangers game in Arlington for decades living down here in Houston, but that synthetic surface looks awful on tv.

Do you even West Texas, bro? Star center looks to be SSE of Colorado City and you're talking Lubbock?

I like how the state outline is used AND the font is the same as that on our jersey. Lots of triggering mechanisms there.

No. Anything West of Graham is "damn near Lubbock."

Fair enough. It's just that Lubbock doesn't even have a minor league team and has little to no baseball history. Amarillo & Midland do and currently play in the same league as Frisco. Growing up out there I used to occasionally catch a game in Amarillo when they were the Gold Sox, but now they're a Diamondbacks affiliate and their mascot name is the "Sod Poodles" whatever the hell that is. Terrible mascot, but then again Amarillo isn't very good with mascots. Here is one of their attempts when they were the Gold Sox:

Can't understand why this didn't catch on.

OK, enough off day musing from this poster. Counting the hours to the Dodgers series start...

My familiarity with the West Texas minor clubs centered around San Antonio and the owner who was looking to move his AAA franchise there and move the AA Missions to Amarillo, maybe?!

I used to follow the Rangers minor league teams as they bounced from Tulsa/OKC to Frisco, to RR, to Nashville... once they consolidated the league 2 years ago, it was all bets off.

I even looked at some of the minor league teams for sale... not that I could be a majority owner, but if the deal and place were right, I could probably cobble something together.

That was a good viewing.

Makes me wonder what the Trade Deadline will look like. You have to move pieces off the 26 if you bring people in.

I meant to post this earlier, but Josh Jung is going to have to get his butt in gear, because Masataka Yoshida is coming. His July game logs are pretty ridiculous. He's got 21 hits and 10 RBIs, with only 6 strikeouts. And don't kid yourself, voters would love nothing more than to hand the ROY to an international guy playing for the Boston Red Sox.

Enjoying a nice break tonight. The next 6 days will be intense.

I'd honestly be ok with 1/3 from dodgers series and Oakland winning 1 against Houston. That still equals a 7-2 homestand and a much easier strength of schedule going forward.

The pitching matchups kinda suck for the dodgers series. I just don't want to get swept.

Really?

Dodgers:
Heaney (18GS, 4.43) v Gonsolin (14GS, 3.72)
Dunning (2.82) v MIller (9GS, 4.25) 24yo - 9 Career MLB GS
Perez (18GS, 4.84) v Sheehan (5GS, 4.91) 23yo - 5 Career MLB GS

I like the matchups.

From an experience standpoint the match ups are good, but from a stuff or what each guy has perspective it's not ideal. The Dodgers, just like the Rays, have a plethora of dudes who absolutely shove. Now I know that isn't everything and our lineup can be lethal, but it's definitely a factor. Miller and Sheehan are by no means scrubs.

We seem to underperform against the "down on their luck" or "inexperienced" starters of the world. The lineup performed horribly against the rays starters in both non-mclanahan games where it seemed like we had a big advantage.

Rangers need to be patient and disciplined. If they are, we'll light Miller and Sheehan up.

I'm as much a Dodger pitcher homer as anyone, but these guys would be in the minors if not for injury.

Im right there with you on new ballpark vs old ballpark….. what a beautiful venue the old one was….. if I couldnt sit in some heat…. remember I said sit (im not playing) ….. well hell i needed to keep my ass at home anyway, the parking lot walk might kill me. But damn with new go fast rules….. last time I went was a dollar dog night….. took me 2 1/2 innings to get 2 dogs. Maybe shufflin concession workers need a pitch clock also??????
End of day…. new stadium is growing on me!

The shed doesn't look like much driving up to it, but it's a great place to watch and probably play a ball game. That's what really matters.

The old ballpark was nice when weather wasn't a factor, but as we all know it usually was at least half of the games every season. Major major pointage loss for expecting people to sit in 100-120 degree feels like weather for 3-4 hours straight and then have all these rude ushers guard peoples seats like hawks so you can't go down to the lower levels when they leave.

Give me the damn shed any day of the week.

The old place looks great from the outside but was brutal for 3/4 of the season, at least.

New place, in order to make it look light and airy inside with roof closed, uses ETFE paneling. While it doesn't look as nice from the outside, it makes the inside much less "cave like" with the roof closed. In short, they gave up external aesthetics in order to make the inside great for baseball.

I would much rather have it be so nice closed instead of look pretty but be cave-like (such as Enron, Chase, etc)

So when do we want to see the Rangers make a move? I'd rather them do it sooner than later so we don't get raked over the coals on a price. I know we've talked Ohtani ad nauseam, but I still don't think he's getting traded, and if he does it will be at the last minute of the deadline. I'm curious as to when the Cardinals and White Sox are going to begin selling, because they have the most guys to sell.

Would love for us to pull the rug out from under the Astros on a deal for Dylan Cease

Could also see a Keller/Bednar deal from Pitt

We already got Chapman, so it's when is our NEXT move . Kudos to CY for making that move when he did (and for the price that he got Chapman for). The answer is next week sometime most likely. I think all the buyers and sellers are all still feeling each other out, sellers trying to get the most in return that they can. We need a couple more teams to decide to be sellers to help soften the asking price a bit. But with the current wildcard setup, too many teams still theoretically have a "chance". I think mid-to-late next week more player movement will start happening. Get ready for endless tweets of rumors from "sources" coming soon...

I think a Keller/Bednar deal is really solid and could be likely to get done with how Pitssburg has fallen off. Cease isn't getting traded until he's traded, imo. He's going to cost a fortune and the Sox would prefer not to sell him.
