Yes. I want 2-3 more arms. I don't want to have to burn the same 3-4 arms in close games. Or have to put a King or Barlow in a game that's still within reach just for them to make it out of reach.

This team has yet to learn how to win being down after 7 innings. The offense has consistently shut down in late innings of close games. Must get better there or they will go nowhere this season.

Otto is another guy, like Ragans. Team control through 2027, who will likely be a pretty decent SP who needs to develop at the MLB level on a team with salary constraints.

The CY signings have changed the way we need to go about our rotation.

Guys like Spencer Howard, Cole Winn... change of scenery guys who just won't get there before they are chewing up the Serf years or Rule V. Problem is, some just don't have that much value.

Our 4 SPs (E, G, P, & H) have combined for 360 IP in 62 GS, which is 5.8 (5 2/3... almost 6.0) IP/GS.

That really only leaves 3.0 IP/G on Avg.

FYI:

Our LH RP:
Smith (33): 29G, 2.73 ERA, 29.2 IP, 33 SO (2.4 BB9, 10.0 SO9), 14 Sv
Chapman (35): 31G, 2.45 ERA, 29.1 IP, 53 SO (3.9 BB9, 13.4 SO9), 2 Sv
Burke (26): 25G, 3.09 ERA, 32.0 IP, 24 SO (1.4 BB9, 6.8 SO9)

I think that is a pretty solid group.

Agreed. But over time we need to supplement at least one spot (maybe two) in the rotation with a low cost controllable starter. We need O. White and/or Leiter to step into a starter spot in the next year or two, which will help keep the payroll costs under control.

Yeah, we aren't getting squat as far as trade value for either of those. I believe we are bringing Winn out of the pen exclusively here lately, and he's been pitching better. Maybe he is more cut out to be a reliever than a starter? Wasn't long ago that he was one of our better pitching prospects, but it's been a struggle ever since.

I would add Burke to that list as a reliable arm out of the bullpen. With LeClerc still being a work in progress as far as being able to trust him. Lets see how he does after he returns from the IL. He was doing better of late, lets keep him out of late inning situations.

Our RH RP:
Sborz (29): 24G, 2.70 ERA, 33.1 IP, 45 SO (2.4 BB9, 12.2 SO9)
Barlow (27): 12G, 3.00 ERA, 9.0 IP, 6 SO (2.0 BB9, 6.0 SO9)
Anderson (26): 12G, 3.06 ERA, 17.2 IP, 18 SO (3.1 BB9, 9.2 SO9)

Leclerc (29): 24G, 3.42 ERA, 23.2 IP, 25 SO (5.7 BB9, 9.5 SO9) <- 15IL

Good. Not great. Lots of confidence in Sborz Leclerc needs to "click" and settle in.

Could develop to being a solid BP, but would love to get one more lockdown closer type.

Getting Chapman shores up the BP and gives us the ability to set a higher standard for what we keep.

Anderson has been pretty solid as well

1st exchange: That's what I'm thinking. Solid baseline that we now need to keep feeding from cheaper internally developed players. We shouldn't be signing FAs moving forward.

Bradford (25) - you're going to use this season to prepare for a spot in the 2024 replacing Perez. We have Owen White (23) right behind you.

2nd exchange: My point is, we need to start developing them on their way out like Ragans. Maybe 2024, but I'm looking for an exit strategy with them.

There has been lots of talk lately about competing teams swapping players that mutually help each other. One reference was the Astros announcing they have extra OFs and willing to trade with a playoff hopeful team to fill holes.

I would NOT be upset if the Rangers traded Perez or Heaney. While many may not be impressed with a 4.28 and 4.38 ERA, respectively , there are many teams getting desperate for SP. Then, bounce between Bradford and White to fill-in.

Rangers have 56 games after the deadline. 5 off days (3 in August). Lots of games during that time against teams that will have already quit - As, Mets, White Sox.

Dodgers will find out tomorrow if Kershaw is ok and McClanahan (Tampa) left the game last night after 3.0 IP. Second game he has left after 3IP and he is likely headed to the IL.

Last post because I'm bored and the kids are waking up.

20 games in 23 days to start Aug. Somebody forgot to tell MLB that the Rangers play indoors, now.

Schedule starting Aug 1:
v CWS (3).... 36-48
v Miami (3)
@ Oak (3).... 22-62
-- Off --
@ SF (3)
v LAAA (3)
-- Off --
v Milk (3)
@ Az (2)
-- Off --
@ Minn (4)
@ Mets (3).... 36-46
v Minn (3)
v Hou (3)
-- Off --
v Oak (3).... 22-62
@ Tor (3)
@ Cle (3)
v Bos (3).... 41-42
-- Off --
v Sea (3).... 39-42
@ LAAA (3)
@ Sea (4).... 39-42

You could easily slide in Bradford or White against any of the teams I've given their record, or with the off-days, just skip that spot in the rotation.

Just an interesting note, and Idk how closely everyone here follows minor league stuff, but the Rangers have a kid they drafted in the 20th round in the 2021 draft out of Florida named Joseph Montavalo. He's 21 and currently with the Wood Ducks, sporting a 6-0 record with a 1.71 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 61 SO's in 52.2 innings pitched. No clue what his velo or RPM numbers are, but I like his windup and the way the ball comes out of his hand a lot.

There was a time before my kids became teens, that I would post weekly updates of the prominent SPs from each of the Rangers' affiliates.

I still follow many players, but not very closely.

Thanks for the heads-up. Several P with nice stats. Looks like DJ McCarty was an undrafted player we signed.

I'm so sick of watching Adolis swing at the first three pitches he sees. Man needs to not pick the bat off his shoulder until two strikes, sheesh.

Two dotted 3-2 K's by Brown. Maldy didn't even have to jerk them 2 feet like he does on every other pitch.
