Damn. That's a shame for Dunning.

That's a guy walking to the dugout who wanted the CG shutout badly. Love to see it.

Ugh, knew something like that would happen as soon as Raymond started talking about the shutout and strike out figures and only having two base runners all game.

Yep. That's a CG shutout if Trevor is at 3rd.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

It's hard not to. His whole "I'm glad we didn't get the review because the game should end on an actual play" was moronic even for him.

Good chance to gain on the Angels and rays tonight. Both teams are losing right now.

Rumors are that Otto may get the call tomorrow. May be an Otto/ Bradford night to give the starters and BP extra rest going into the Stros series.

Man I hope not. Only game I am attending all year. Would like to see a bunch of the starters play. And would like to see one of our main starters pitch too.

I think Otto could be an effective piece out of the pen. He's got better command than Howard (not that hard lol) and wipeout slider. His slider could be a real weapon.

Just don't want it to be like the last St. Louis game. Can we balance resting people without punting games? Or at least put up a competitive effort in the games we try to rest folks?

Would hate to give the Astros a free opening to "gain ground" on us all in the name of rest.

Dunning enters among the Qualified SPs by reaching 80.1 IP (Rangers have 80GP).

1. 2.23 McClanahan (TB)
2. 2.49 Valdez (Hou)
3. 2.67 Gray (Min)
4. 2.69 Dunning (Tex)

6. 2.82 Eovaldi (Tex)
8. 2.89 Gray (Tex)

When do we see Dunning as a legit SP?

We had an exchange about Keller (Pit) in the past couple days. I'm as guilty as any looking at our SPs and seeing their body of failures and have little confidence they're over the hump.

Are we still waiting on Dunning to revert back to average or are we gaining confidence in him?

I'm disappointed for Dunning he didn't get the CG SHO... but what a great game. BP fully rested. It certainly makes a decision for Otto/Bradford easier, if that was what they considered.

Astros win tonight, but the good news is Javier doesn't look like an ace lately. His era is inching up to 4.00

Hopefully that upward trend continues.

Wouldn't call starting Bradford or Otto punting a game.

I would love that, for Otto.

I think after Dunning, he was 8th, maybe going into the season:
deGrom, Eovaldi, Gray, Heaney, Perez
Odorizzi, Dunning, Otto

Funny comment from that link from February:

Quote:

Dunning was Mr. Durability in 2022 compared to the 4 not named Perez. Dunning likely ends up in the rotation, the only riddle to solve is which one of the 5 goes on the DL/IL.
That would be deGrom, Odorizzi, and Otto.

Otto makes for some trade leverage. Serf in 2024, then 3 years of Arb.

Could Dunning get ASG Consideration or is he not that big of a headline yet?

General All-Star voting stopped Monday, so he won't be getting any consideration, but I don't think he's put up enough stats to even get consideration. He just qualified today from the sound of it.

Speaking to Dunning overall, he just needs to keep pitching. A lot of guys can have stretches of seasons where they're fantastic or lights out, but less can do it for a whole season and even less from season to season.

I'm super happy for him though. Being healthy really seems like it's turned his career around so far, and he's done some heavy lifting for this pitching staff by picking up for what we thought we were going to get from deGrom and Odorizzi.

Depends on the lineup we roll out.

But Otto pitching and a lineup filled with smith, grossman, garver, and huff all at the same time would stink. I'd understand it if we won the first 3 of this series, but lose tomorrow and it's a disappointing split. The game tomorrow is still important to win.

Kinda goes back to punting last game against Cards….

Isn't Pitching generally a selection and not voted on.

I think the real question becomes would they be willing to add a SP from the Rangers, and if so... how many.

I'm honestly not super sure on how you're an All-Star pitcher besides that the starters are selected by the manager. Selecting pitchers does make a little more sense though.

I really liked the idea of going with a tandem of Bradford and Otto.

1st, you get to push back your rotation. Against Houston, you now go:
Gray
Eovaldi
Heaney
Perez

You also push Gray out so that he doesn't pitch the last day before the ASG.

Any chance we get to give the rotation a break, we should take. We want to win the Post Season... not the Regular Season.

We are now 2nd in the AL 4.5GB and +160 in Run Diff.

Evan Carter last night was 3 for 4 with a walk, a stolen base, and an outfield assist. His average is now up to .303 after recovering from the wrist issues.

Also of note in the minors last night, South Grand Prairie's own Josh Stephan threw 5 perfect innings at high A Hickory, with 10 Ks. He is 21 and on the season he is 6-3 with a 2.17 ERA. Expect he'll get moved up to Frisco fairly soon.

That's awesome. I've got a 7 month old boy and anytime the Rangers score I'll do a little victory screech and he thinks it's the funniest thing to ever happen. Raising the next generations of baseball fans is a lot of fun!

You absolutely want to get Gray and Eovaldi, on an extra day of rest, pitching in this series with the Astros. If you go out and win 3/4 or better, I think it could be curtains for the Astros chances to win the division.

Given our last few years, I refuse to allow myself to believe we have anything in the bag until we clinch, even though this team has proven they have staying power.
