Do we even think Scherzer is worth the prospects it would take to get him? Or better than the pitcher he'd be replacing in the rotation? I personally don't think so.

By my count, the AL has played 115 extra inning games this year, but the NL has only played 65. If we subtract out the number of interleague games (which I can't find), the ratio would be even higher. This seems really strange, especially when you consider that higher scoring should lead to fewer extra inning games, and the AL has scored 215 more runs than the NL.

You'd be trading for playoff Scherzer, which I think is worth it. He has the player option for '24, which also makes things tricky.
As things stand, the Rangers don't need Scherzer at what it will most certainly cost, but I'd certainly feel more comfortable rolling him out in the Postseason compared to other options.

I'm with you if the price wasn't so high, and I'm not talking just about giving up prospects. The money is astronomical.

Yeah, I get that.. I haven't watched him this year, but I would just be worried that the production wouldn't match the cost of acquiring him.
Sure the rotation outside of Eovaldi has had their ups and downs.. but the only one I can see him coming close to replacing is Perez.

I feel bad for Yerry in a way. He's the player who's yo-yo'd up and down, and doesn't really get to pitch or try and figure it out at the MLB level. At least he can collect a few MLB paychecks.
So weird how Semien goes through stretches with zero power. Hanger that he would normally crush and it's just a routine pop up to left. This month has been very similar to last April with him.

I guess my thought on Scherzer is... the Player Option for 2024 @ $43M is almost guaranteed.
There are only 3 or 4 teams that would be willing to commit to $43M for a 39 yo Scherzer in 2024.
The Mets will either give him away in terms of prospects with the new team paying most of the money... OR... the Mets will eat the money in order to get better prospects.
Dodgers and Yankees, IMO, would be teams willing to pay the salary in order to give up few prospects.
